Re: 2019-20 season
Isn't VCU in the midst of a death spiral right now?? They've lost 5 out of the last 6 including 4 in a row.. Not saying we win, but its as good of a chance to beat VCU in a long time. VCU is 1-2 at Umass and we know we play a lot better at home.
Re: 2019-20 season
I'm a terrible gambler, but I wouldn't bet on VCU winning by 8 or more points. VCU is banged up and playing mediocre at best basketball right now, they just lost @SLU by 18 points.eldonabe wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2020 8:02 am As an amateur gambler (and semi-successful at that) there are things that just happen because they do. I would like nothing more than to see Umass win this VCU game, but as trends and tendencies go, VCU has a lot going for it on pure odds to win the game. This is the kind of game that has the makings of just getting out of hand quickly; then UMass stabilizing but never recovering. Like I said - 8 points or less and I am loading up on VCU.
Re: 2019-20 season
I like this team and its future, but right now they're very flawed, especially on offense where even if Carl is making shots they're extremely limited.JoleonLescottsHair wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2020 1:26 pmNot clear to me. I think they have most of the pieces and these have largely come together over the last 8 games. Having TJ back would be awfully nice, but otherwise I think further experience is the key at this point. I still fear a rough finish but that’s mostly a feature of the schedule.

Let's see what the spread is... If it is VCU by 8 or less, I will take UMass' side. I am guessing a 6-8 point dawg Wednesday and if it is that or less I will be putting a few hard earned sheckles on VCU. After the way they have played the last few game and the way VCU has played, this has the makings of a drubbing. I don't want or like that, but it is what it is.

I do not gamble with my heart, I gamble with my head. I have been doing this for way too long and have seen it all. Those reasons you state are exactly why this is a "bettable" game. The spread should be 2-3 point lower than it would have been only a few weeks ago or even a few days ago - that makes it a value play. I am 100% rooting for Umass as a fan, but I bet against whom I root for often.NilesGold wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2020 8:58 amI'm a terrible gambler, but I wouldn't bet on VCU winning by 8 or more points. Me too, man. Me too.

Are you taking into account VCU's mounting injuries?eldonabe wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2020 11:41 amI do not gamble with my heart, I gamble with my head. Yes I am. That spread this morning is VCU -5.5. I would not be surprised to see it go down to 4 by game time.NilesGold wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2020 5:21 pmAre you taking into account VCU's mounting injuries?eldonabe wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2020 11:41 amI do not gamble with my heart, I gamble with my head. Nothing is guaranteed, but that is a really nice opportunity to make some dough.

That's why they call it gambling.

Re: 2019-20 season
Umass is 11-4 at home this year. Their 4 losses were by 4 to a South Carolina team that is now on the bubble to make the NCAA Tournament. In OT to arguably the best team in the IVY league this year. And a respectable loss to a team ranked in the top 5 in the country. Of course there's the GW loss as well, which at this point in the year can be thrown out as a major outlier. Basically, I wouldn't be shocked if they upset URI next week. URI really needs to shore up their D if they are giving up 75 points to Fordham. Lets beat URI and LaSalle and get this baby to .500.
Re: 2019-20 season
Let me ask, they hit .500 and show well in A10 tourney, do they go postseason, maybe NIT?
They'd be a fairly hot team, with a rising stud in Tre, and showing signs of improvement. Big step for the program

Re: 2019-20 season
I doubt any A10 team with that kind of record ever got invited to the NIT. That's more Power5 territory. We could get invited to the CBI. Do we go to that?
