Interesting hire with Wheeler. He was a helluva player at URI and was at Fairfield for a long time. Hope he helps the young point guards learn the ropes.

I like that he had a long play career even if it was international. Hopefully can relate to the players more. Was one of my gripes with the old staff was lack of experience as players

Cormier is an interesting choice. He's 68 years old and has tons of experience as a head coach (Dartmouth, Fairfield), assistant at Villanova and for the Memphis Grizzlies. Also was a scout for 2 NBA teams. A potentially great mentor for MM.
I also like Wheeler (more now than when he and Mobley made our lives miserable at URI).

Really like the Wheeler pick up... hes a guy that can relate to the players and was a really good PG with a long pro career.. plus hes been coaching for a while now.

Good for us. I see Bamford Senior's footprint all over this.

Think he is perfect in an adminstration role. With jordan becoming a coach we will need a director of operations I expect one of grossman or Kurtz will get that with Cormier being the assistant to the coach. A vet with a ton of experience who knows the area. Could really help us on the scouting side as well. It's a nice balance. We have young hungry guys to work with the players and a old head to help behind the scenes

I don’t know much about Cormier outside of what I read on Wikipedia. He may be a good fit. He might not. That’s my hard-hitting analysis.
Pretty lengthy career, not a great record as a head coach but don’t think those were great jobs he had. And I saw that his Fairfield team almost beat UNC in the 16-1 tourney game back in 1997.
Can’t hurt to give it a shot.

Cal used to always mention how important it was to have Jack around as a mentor. Sounds like this could be similarly beneficial.

The rest is just a criticism of Connecticut College's culture and internal-politics.Conn's latest dismissive wave came last week with the hiring of someone other than Tyson Wheeler as its new men's basketball coach.
Tyson Wheeler: The most beloved athlete to ever hail from the 06320. The former whiz kid at New London High who grew up practicing the unspoken value of constant effort, relentlessly honing his game at Toby May, with an omnipresent magnetism.
The kid who was never big enough or strong enough but proved that if the dream is big enough, the facts don't count, becoming a Division I player at Rhode Island, leading the Rams within an eyelash of the Final Four.
The kid who played in the NBA and then professionally for years in Europe.
The kid who defied the rhythms of hard-marking New London, remaining a beloved figure here and all over the region, even to opponents on whom he'd rain threes like hailstones. Tyson: Where never was heard a discouraging word.
Now the man who is a husband and dad with Div. I coaching experience at Fairfield, the man who would have given Conn immediate relevance and local context.
Instead, the most beloved athlete in the history of the city is still looking for a job.
He wasn't good enough for Connecticut College.

Don't think so. Wheeler started at Fairfield in 2010

Re: 2019-20 season
Just saw on the URI website that Wheeler is their 2nd all time leading scorer, 1st in career assists (by more than 200) and 2nd in career steals (short by 2 steals). I remember him being good when we played them, but I didn't realize just how good he was. If he has any coaching/communication skills he should be a tremendous asset for our young point guards.
