With McCroy coming in next year, I really don't see a place for Jackson. Especially if Diallo and Walker spend time at the 3.

McCry and CJ are very different players IMO. McCroy more of a pure scoring slashing two whereas CJ has more length and will be utilized in full court sets. Very different but a very rough comparison would be like Derrick Gordon to Sampson Carter.

I'm just going to wait-and-see to how the players play and develop once the games start (and in McCrory's case, gets on campus). I read in here and saw on Twitter that some folks think CJ can play point guard because he made a couple of nice passes in a highlight video. No idea if he can or if he can't. And he shot well on the trip but I think if that was what he normally does he would have had a lot more offers coming out of hs. I have no idea. He seems like a pretty good prospect.

Do they have a lot of wings? Sure seems like it, but I think that's probably by design and more about defense than offense. But again, I have no idea.

Yeah, I'm not trying to be overly negative. Maybe just my mental roster is being stressed. I am very much looking forward to the season and seeing the new players.

Goddamit I hate doing this......... There is a huge difference between expectations and what I think we will see this year, but I am very optimistic about the future for some reason.

My "expectation bar" for this season is very low. Somewhere in the 7-11 range in conference, which is probably something like 11-13 total wins. To me that would be a great season if:

- No major injuries
- Nobody bails (coaches or players)
- The team looks like it gives a shit

If this team plays with the effort that McCall's 1st team did - Umass is going to be something again (at least in the short term). It is a delicate balance between knowing your place in the process - outside of Pierre this is basically all underclassmen - and and not pinning any definition of "success" on wins and losses (this year).

I think they will look very disjointed for a while as they work out good rotations and just gain simple experience. McCall needs all of them to buy into the future and the learning process and take the lumps. Mitchell could be a legit stud - and a building block - keep his frustrations to a minimum and get him to buy into the development part and this could really be a 20+ win tourney team within 2 years.

I really think this is going to be a pleasantly surprising year - if the core stays - it will be a bright future [finally] as well. I also think he has more help on the bench this year (assistants). They just seem more like a basketball staff then just his friends that know some stuff about the game. I just have a good feeling about this -for the first time in a really long time - like since Ford came here.

I think the addition of Bergeron is huge. This guy wasn't just some assistant somewhere. He ran very successful programs and has tons of success developing players and his teams. The guy knows what he's doing

I would say Rasheen Davis getting scooped up by Arizona State kind of flies in the face of this narrative. I also will say it appears coach Davis' calling card is much more on the recruiting side than the coaching/development side.

Agreed - MM needs input on the court during games. The hypothetical question is was he not getting that from his former staff because he did not seek it or they just could not/did not provide it. This new bench seems more collaborative already from the limited reports I have heard.

The fact it took this long may say otherwise. Davis wasn't really getting the recruiting done here from what I've heard

Buggs at his finest. I think he'll be the behind the scenes glue guy for this team.

This guy’s high on UMass in this A-10 preview:

Maybe this is just semantics, but I don't think he's very high on UMass. He had nice things to say about the house cleaning McCall did, and he likes Tre Mitchell a lot, but he has the team projected to finish in 10th place, which I think is about where most people have them.
