I wonder if they asked him to retire, and he declined. He's 64 y.o. I think.

If he wants to, he'll be able to get another job someplace, given his experience and past success

All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

Good for St Joes. It's tough because I feel like they've had good teams but accompanied by possibly the worst injury luck in the country the last 5 seasons - but they've also underachieved several years in a row now.

I wasn't sure I would see our record of 7 transfers in the post DK season broken, but never say never.

Truman is rolling over in his grave. At least UMass had (has?) a modicum of cache to it... Good luck to whoever inherits the dumpster fire of UMKC.

That's too mad I loved him in Young Frankenstein

In Matt McCall I trust!

On the other hand, UMKC never had anything to lose. Nothing more than a single postseason appearance in their 30 seasons at DI. And that was an invitation they had to pay for (CBI). Maybe some coach can come in there and write their history.
From a national perspective: UMass has lost everything, arguably multiple times.
Well, now I feel like shit. This is fun...

Re: 2019-20 Coaching Changes thread
For a small, tuition-driven college/small endowment like St. Joe's to fire a coach with 2+ years remaining on his contract says something. I am not suggesting any type of scandal. But, as their lead sport, I guess they needed to 'save the brand'.
Feeling entitled is JUST a feeling...
Re: 2019-20 Coaching Changes thread
McKinney - fair point. If you've always been at the bottom of the totem pole there's not very far you can fall.
Econ - If they knew they wanted to move on from Martelli, what is the point in keeping him for any longer? Why let him bring in another class(es)? if you know you want to move in a different direction just rip the band-aid off NOW and do it. New AD obviously wanted to get in "his" guy - sound familiar?

Looks like GW is hiring that Jamion Christian coach from Sienna (for a year) and Mount St. Mary's -- seems like a pretty good hire. He's got his work cut out for him, though.

^ What’s the deal with Christian? I’ve seen some people call it a great hire and others call it a horrible one. I wasn’t familiar so I looked up his past - never seemed to knock it out of the park anywhere - not that that means everything. Just curious what people like about him?
Re: 2019-20 Coaching Changes thread
I think he made the NCAA's a couple of times in a few years at Mary's and was good in conference play and then Siena overachieved this year compared to expectations in his first year there. Perhaps he knew there would be a second year curse if he stuck around at Siena.
He's also a DC guy so that should help.
