It's kind of odd. Should promote the program every chance you get, draw interest.

What if they send out a press release on UMass Amherst letterhead that is more red than maroon and proceed to offer no details about the games but instead just list all of the players on the roster who are not from Massachusetts? Would that be a big deal?

They are going have a recap after the trip when they get back. I wouldn't expect much game footage if any at all to come out form the trip. But mccall will sit down with media and the radio guy to discuss it and perhaps we get a high light thrown in

It's amazing how differently the women are treating their trip than the men. I don't get it. Women have had video highlights of both games they played, have had videos of the fun they are having and things they are doing in Portugal, and have had numerous pictures all over social media. I'm not 100 percent sold on Verdi as a coach yet, but he runs circles around McCall in terms of marketing his program, relating to fans and players, etc.

Stayed tuned. You only have about 31 more hours of silence to listen to.

UMassfan_19 wrote: Tue Aug 20, 2019 4:29 pm why is it being called a media blackout.

Because that's essentially what the AD called it. It was the program and his choice to keep this trip on the DL to outsiders, including media.

I honestly don't care that the media didn't go. What I find odd is that the department spent money to be able to professionally stream and produce content.. they should have the capability to provide streams (video OR audio) of these games through their own website, live or on stream/tape delay.

I don't need to see the team bond, go scuba diving, or any of that... especially if they want that to stay between them... but I certainly want to see/hear them play. I don't think there's anything out of the ordinary with that.

Seems odd that Bamford wouldn’t ensure consistency as to how these trips were handed media wise.

Coach Bell and his staff could certainly show a few other programs how to creatively and consistently use social media to promote their product to multiple audiences. To date, I'd give them a solid A. MBB would struggle to get a B-.

I highly doubt RB made that decision in a vacuum. Clearly, they want to keep things under wraps for now - for whatever reason. I believe they call that "controlling the narrative".

There are no rules that say they HAVE TO share any of this and they are choosing not to, so at the very least controlling the narrative of what they want shared.

You can take this two ways I suppose... but if it were me (in MM's shoes), I think I would really like to see what is going on against other competition besides scrimmages among my own players. These kids all live on the social media and I am sure they read all of the stuff here as well as other places, so you DO NOT need a bunch of "message board coaches" spewing shit that may affect your players negatively.

There will be plenty of other opportunities before Game 1 to see these boys in action and get scouting reports. I am beyond curious about what is going to happen this season, but I can wait another month for info.

How the hell are we going to be able to chart out who starts, minutes per game, points, rebounds and depth charts if we have to wait a month?

I don't need a stream or even a box score.. Maybe some quick highlights and a few words.. We know in these, especially with so many new guys the score doesn't matter.. But how bout player X played hard.. etc
