Virgin Islands, August 2019, exhibition trip
Re: Virgin Islands, August 2019, exhibition trip
Youngstown posted pics, game story and had audio for their games. I hope we get at least that plus box scores.

Was held out because I believe his hip was a tad sore that practice. But I believe should be good to go on this trip. Was still dribbling around and stuff just not in the drills

With Diallo at full strength, I would assume he starts at the 3 and plays 4 a lot too.mlaconte459 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 7:28 pmWas held out because I believe his hip was a tad sore that practice. I'm still confused by their stance... I just want some audio of the games (live or tape/stream delay) or live box score updates. I don't need to know what the players are doing every second of the day they are there.

Its almost like they are trying to shield the kids from any bad press... I'd be happy knowing what the game time even is. A box score and maybe a quick recap would be nice. Like you said.. I don't need a complete scouting report.. hopefully there is someone down there that isn't covered by this media blackout.

Fair point, and I did see that YSU's leading scorer in one of the Calgary games was Second-Team in the Horizon last year.

Bamford attempted to explain the blackout:
https://twitter.com/UMassADBamford/stat ... 9689181186
For wanting to avoid "documenting our every move", they're already off to a bad start. We've already seen two tweets from the official account about the trip, and another two from McCall.
Also strange that they don't want to document how they look in the exhibition games, yet they document the shit out of the team during conditioning. How many posts have we seen from the weight room and the strongman drills?
Others have said on Twitter already, and I agree: this is an awkward strategy for a team that needs to rebuild the fanbase after a few years of going downhill. You won't see much more roster turnover than we just had. Now's the time to give people a preview of what they might get this season, and put faces to names. I'll admit that I couldn't tell who was who between most of these new freshmen, sans Tre Mitchell and TJ Weeks.
These exhibition games, with all the new players, trying to gel together, are going to be a lot of work in progress. But with no journalists on the trip, no streaming audio, no streaming video, this is the perfect opportunity to put together an edited video recap, where you show the best plays and cut out the rookie mistakes.
I really don't understand this strategy.
The really negative way of looking at this: they don't want these games to see the light of day because we expect the results to be really bad. Keep this team a secret until absolutely necessary.

The only thing I care about is what players are going to be featured on our version of the famous LeBron and company banana boat photo?

A starving dog welcomes even a well picked bone. I'm in the "something is not right" camp. This stinks!
Re: Virgin Islands, August 2019, exhibition trip
Could it be as simple as they just don't want to pay for these people to travel? It seems weird that the excuse is a media blackout but as Mike pointed out the coaches and team account have posted a bunch already. Odd, for sure.

Yes, it could be. But if that's the case, you can spin it much differently than they are.

Re: Virgin Islands, August 2019, exhibition trip
why is it being called a media blackout. If media could afford to go or were paid to go they would have been welcomed in with open arms. They are just not going to have highlight tapes or streams of the games which are more than understandable or make some highly produced tour video. They are focusing on team building and playing basketball instead of doing interviews etc. Doesn't really seem like a big deal to me. Its not like they are stopping staff from posting about it or not giving an update here or there on twitter
