^ Right. Just like the Las Vegas tournament this year. So we'd play two teams from each tier, but the Mohegan games would be a mini round robin affair.

Re: 2019 Hall of Fame Classic At Mohegan Sun
This thread has me thinking.... why doesn't UMass play Vermont? I'm sure they have in the past, but I can't remember a game between them in the 8 years or so that I've been following the team closely. I understand the whole concept behind schools not wanting to schedule "lesser" opponents that are good teams, trying to avoid a loss that looks embarrassing on paper. UMass is not in a position to turn down any good teams on the schedule at this point, IMO. It seems like a match-up that could generate some interest in New England. Anybody have any background on this?

Last game with Vermont was in '03. See the record of opponents on this very site: http://umasshoops.com/wiki/doku.php?id= ... es_records
I wish they would schedule Vermont as well. Admin seems to be interested in scheduling New England teams so maybe in the near future?

Yeah, it's almost weird that we don't play Vermont. That 2003 game was the first time we played them since 1991, so we've played them just once in the last 28 years.
In contrast, we've played...
Maine 4 times since 2000
New Hampshire a few months ago
UMass Lowell each of the past 3 seasons
Holy Cross 8 times since 2000
Dartmouth in 2006
You'd think it wouldn't be so hard to get UVM for a trip down 91. But maybe they're insisting on a home-and-home that we don't want to give. They've been a great program for a long time now, with 11 straight seasons of 20+ wins. They can probably be more choosy of who to add on their non-conf schedule.

Sorry I meant we'd get UVA in the first game at Mohegan and then 2 of the others at home. The top 4 will be the only ones playing in Mohegan of course.
Re: 2019 Hall of Fame Classic At Mohegan Sun
^ How do we know we get UVA in the first day at Mohegan? Not being snarky there, serious question.
Re: 2019 Hall of Fame Classic At Mohegan Sun
I'd really rather we didn't get UVA in the first round. Or ever.

A game up in Burlington against UVM would actually be pretty fun.MikeUMA wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2019 12:38 pm Yeah, it's almost weird that we don't play Vermont. That 2003 game was the first time we played them since 1991, so we've played them just once in the last 28 years.

My last post was in response to your response to my first post ( ) where I say "I'd imagine". And that's basically just going off of ranking the 4 teams. One team is in the final 4, the other 2 made the tournament and Umass finished well under .500. Maybe that's not how they do it, I don't know. Just speculation.

^ La Salle held us to 51. UVA would have done to us what VA Tech did to NC State in February.
Thanks for the explainer. I'm just eager for confirmation about anything on the schedule.natwam2547 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2019 10:20 amMy last post was in response to your response to my first post ( ) where I say "I'd imagine". They are screwed. We've got them! He was the MOP of the final 4 and I heard that he averaged 83 points, 62 rebounds, 44 assists and 31 steals per game.Jeff Borzello

Virginia guard Kyle Guy announced Monday he plans to keep his name in the NBA draft and will not return to the Cavaliers for his senior season.

Re: 2019 Hall of Fame Classic At Mohegan Sun
Just as I suspected. I have no proof in how they determine the matchups, but you'd have to think they'd want the two best "supposed" teams in the finals, for the tournaments sake and for the teams involved SOS. I'll go out on a limb and predict Umass plays St. John's in the other game. They are a trainwreck right now with players and coaches leaving and the coaching search being a headscratcher.
