Game 26, 2018-19: at George Washington (2/20)

Post by 69MG » Wed Feb 20, 2019 10:19 am

There's a game tonight. We opened as a 1 point favorite and it has now gone to 2.5. I hope the folks in Vegas know something that I'm not aware of.
GW isn't very good, but neither are Fordham, etc., etc.

It's the Pipkins return factor. I know there is talk in his player thread about him coming off the bench but considering it is only for sure happening tonight, I will post about it here.

I LOVE THE MOVE. Takes a bit of stones on McCall's part and I think it sends the right message to the rest of the team. A bit of positive reinforcement in the way they have played the last couple of games. It will be very interesting to see how Pip fits back in with the team - I am hoping he is off the ball for 99% of the game and is less ball dominant than before the injury. Hopefully he also feels less of a burden to score with the emergence of Keon and the resurgence of Pierre's sharpshooting. It's no doubt that our best lineup will be:

1- Keon/Tre
2- Pip
3- CP
4- Samba
5- RH

Keon and Tre should play all 40 at PG, and 2-4 should be 30 min+. I have no problem with Pip taking the same amount of shots he has been, just hopefully better looks and in the flow of the offense vs being the offense. If he can fit back in with the rest of the team not skipping a beat (big ask), they should hit their stride and be a tough out in Brooklyn. If the offense returns to what it was before, they will have a tough time getting to Thursday in Brooklyn.

Going to be a fun night. Watch the guys on the TV using my fire stick and stream the women on my computer. Hope we can get at least one win and preferably two wins.

Should be an interesting game. Questions:

Unique McLean? Shooting 70% from the field and 100% on FTs when getting big minutes over the last 4 games, with 13 assists vs. 3 turnovers. I think GW starts 4 guards and has several that might be too big for our smaller guards to handle. Does McLean get the start again?

What kind of minutes will Pip see? Will he be rusty or tentative coming back from the injury?

Start RH or Baptiste? both seem too big for GW's roster; can they finally translate the size advantage into a winning performance? This one may not matter much, as minutes at the 5 get split anyway.

Who of the 2 very young 2nd year head coaches, given a full week to prepare, will come up with a winning formula?

I think a lot of that had to do with Tre's concussion through the first 10 conference games, and the fact that he's a true freshman. For a while, Pip and Keon were the only capable pg's out there. Now that McCall has seen him in a couple conference games and looks comfortable giving him minutes, I expect that he will be the primary ball handler when he's in there.

McLean has been a nice surprise over the last few games, but don't read too much into his offensive statistics, especially FG%. He hasn't taken many shots (11 over the past 4 games), so those numbers may be a little skewed, although when he plays around the rim he's very effective. I am impressed by that assist to turnover ratio though. If he can continue to play smart and take care of the ball, he can be a good piece, as we've seen.

With a team like GW that some say is guard heavy, absolutely give Unique the start. One, he's earned it, and 2, he plays much bigger than 6-2 or whatever he's listed at and that should be to our advantage. At this time of year, its all about playing the best group that plays hard, plays together, and plays unselfishly.

I just got done watching the Charlotte news and Duke is playing North Carolina tonight. They showed the crowd outside the arena waiting to get in with the students painting their bodies. The temp is around 50 deg. They said that ticket prices were approaching $ 9,000.

woof, this is ugly. The guys need to dig in and make some stops or this is going to be a blowout. They're getting outworked by a mile.

Gw having their best game of the year per announcers. Hope Umass can turn it around. They sure are a funny ream to follow.

Because it was one of their better games. Don't see any way they are going to pull this one out.
