I was there yesterday and Kirkland was sitting with Mack and Chaz courtside, but I have been to four or five other games this year and Kirkland has been at all of them...so it makes me wonder if he lives locally and goes to all the games and may have been announced previously? Even if the answer is NO...it's not a big deal...most of the crowd would not have know who he was anyway...as it was Chaz and Mack got what I'll call a half hearted reaction from the crowd. Coach Carvel was also sitting courtside and no mention of him...in the past he has always been put on the jumbotron and acknowledged.

Yes, Chris lives locally and is often at the games.

Nice to see them play to WIN!
First game for me since early December (not related to team play)...
longest such stretch since early 90s...

Alumni group smallest since they started it...
None of my teammates there...there usually is a good # of them for this event.

No visible support from the Alumni Association
(ALUMNI like in ALUMNI game) ...
No visible support from Chancellor's Office...
not sure what that means other than maybe they just do not care enough...

There were a few from the 50s, including the always young-looking nice guy...George Moran.

Several former team managers came.

We gathered in the PC postgame and had the usual private time with the coach, who expressed his feelings re: UMass basketball...
rather well, IMO...

Summary opinion...I think he knows what needs to be done and is moving in the right direction...

Recommendation: If not this year, please start to Refill the Bill next year.

Special kudos to Chaz...
Not playing professional this season ... helping out his sick mom now.

Look for group pic taken on the court postgame...
hopefully on the Athletics site soon.

and, also, special personal thanks to those there who were nice to me, concerned that I have not been there lately and happy to see some of those 20" x 30" eclectic ... what do you call them?

Also possible to be playing hard but not playing focused. It always feels like Pipkins is playing hard, but it doesn't always feel like he's playing with focus.
I agree to a certain degree...he has had more turnovers than ever lately! But I still stand be the fact that he is playing hard and is not “checked out “ he will get his scoring back guaranteed

Pip has not checked out.... I don't think any of them have.

Sort of. I'm old fashioned. I know the reality is most sport fans have been conditioned to view the "product" but I feel support for a college team, in particular, should be unconditional. Be as thrilled or critical as you want, but if you are a Minuteman fan you are a Minuteman fan.

Well said. Even with the bad losses, I still am a UMass fan first and foremost.

At this University and - more importantly - in this state, we (on this board) are the exception not the rule. Of course we all are devoted to this team and these players and would be setting up two TVs for our Super Bowl parties if the St Joes game was on Sunday instead of Saturday. There is no questioning that this team has massively underachieved to this point in the season and for anything but a UMass diehard there are a lot of other things to do on a Wednesday or Sunday night than head to the Bill to watch some frustrating hoop.

I'm old fashioned like you Joleon. UMass has my undying love and support even though they've done nothing but rip my heart out of my chest over and over. I just can't blame others for not signing up for the self punishment.

^ I'm drawing a blank, but it seems to me that there was a UMass game at St Bonaventure that went up directly against a Bills Super Bowl game. Something unusual, like a hundred people there, or something??? Anyone remember anything?

1992-93 season, they played the same day as the Super Bowl. January 31st, 1993. I cannot find any information about what time the game was scheduled for. UMass won.

The following year UMass hosted URI on Super Bowl Sunday, not that that matters to this discussion.
