Game 16 @ Dayton 1/13/19

^ However he ended up at Dayton my guess is that he's not regretting his decision. Playing in front of 13K fans every game can be fun, I'm sure.

A three point play would require RH to hit a free throw.wmmmfan wrote: ↑Mon Jan 14, 2019 6:16 am MM yelled at Holloway because he wanted him to go up with his shot and draw a foul. Holloway is near perfect from down low and could have potentially gotten a three point play out of it. I see MM’s point but I couldn’t blame Holloway for making the extra pass.
As goes Pip, so goes this team. Not going to win with him shooting 38%. He has shot like crap in the majority of their losses, especially in this losing streak. The next biggest scoring threat is RH and he seemingly can't stay on the floor for more than 15 minutes most games.
The rest of the real talent on the team are Fresh and Sophs. We need to be patient with this team.

Terrible end of game management. So many close games are likely in A-10 play, and UMass's late game management has to improve or the season will go from bad to pathetic. Love Diallo's potential, but that's not useful in the clutch. The energy to dig out of the hole created earlier explains some, but not all.
Since December, ignoring the Holy Cross debacle and blowout at Georgia, every game's Win/Loss has been determined by just a point or 2 or 3 difference in the last couple minutes. Providence and FDU were 1-point wins where the other guys could have won at the end but missed their last shot. All other games were lost with late-game mistakes from our side. Not sure how much blame goes to our coach or players, and some goes to the opponents good plays of course.
A couple wins would change the attitude for sure. Beat GMU!

In hindsight I should've said one-sided, we've never gotten the story from McCall's side/perspective. I've learned to take anything related to recruiting with a healthy dose of skepticism.
I keep waffling on where the truth likely lies in this situation, because trying to look at that situation objectively, it's conceivable, but hard to believe that McCall simply blew off Crutcher & Nolan burning that bridge assuming he could get better players. Both guys signed several weeks after McCall job the UMass job, so he had time to realize how many players he was losing at UMass, and get a feel for the quality of players he could attract, and still reach out to Crutcher & Nolan and try and bring them in. If McCall did assume he could get better players, that seems to have been a huge blunder on his part.

It is truly amazing that Dayton can draw 13000 per game, a campus that is 3 times smaller than UMASS and an area that is smaller than Springfield, and hit by a snow storm.

Well, I sent this in. I thought I did a rather great job with the wording
Hi Coach! I've been hearing since last year that Jalen Crutcher originally signed to play for you at Chattanooga. Can you tell us something about how it happened that he ended up at Dayton instead of following you to UMass?

^ That's the key....it's not what you say but how you say it that matters.
It doesn't hurt that their team wins. UMass filled the Bill regularly when they won as well. I don't know enough about the Dayton area to know what competes for the attention of fans there..other sports, casinos?

Got this today from John Sinnett, Asst AD
Len,
Saw your questions for the radio show; unfortunately we taped everything earlier today before I saw the emails.
Tre is still going through the concussion process; no update at this time. As you can imagine, every individual has a different recovery time for these and we do not rush them back.
As to your Crutcher question, Matt’s talked about it before - specifically mentioning distance from home as a factor.
Thanks!
John

Professional basketball might not be as large a draw with the Cavs being ~200 miles away and the Pacers being ~100 miles away. Regarding fall/winter sports in general, the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets and the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals are only an hour away.
There isn’t really any other collegiate competition immediately in Dayton. However, if Dayton had a fall from grace as hard as UMass has had, the likes of Ohio State, Xavier, and Cincy (all within an hour’s drive) would probably draw some eyeballs.

Dayton also has incredible support from the surrounding area - specifically businesses. They are embraced by the community - imagine that.

Are you suggesting that the PC capital of the east coast support these student athletes who are being treated like slaves. Oh no, that will not fly in Amherst/Northampton.
