KAEO: John Buggs III
Re: KAEO: John Buggs III
Torn ACL per unconfirmed reports from Mullins Center staff. Non-contact knee injury - almost always fear the worst.

McCall said in his post game presser that we should know today (Monday) so guessing he will be getting his MRI today. Reminded me a lot of when Jesse Morgan tore his ACL @ St. Louis (I believe).
Right before the injury the building was rocking, guys on the bench were going nuts - every time Buggs took a three the whole bench stood up ready to explode and the shots would just barely rim out. They looked visibly distraught while he was on the ground screaming and Sean East was nearly moved to tears talking about it after the game. Hoping for the best for him and I know he'll have a ton of support on his road to recovery if it is in fact a torn ACL.

Yes, reminded me of the way Jesse Morgan went down, too.

^^ Thanks, MJ.
Regardless of the severity of the injury I'm hoping for a speedy and COMPLETE recovery!

IF he is done for the year, thankfully we are still within the medical red shirt window.

Re: KAEO: John Buggs III
Confirmed torn ACL via his high school's Twitter account - of all places. He is eligible for a medical redshirt so there is one less player in the 2019 class as he will still be an athletic freshman next season.
Hoping for a speedy recovery and Buggs seems like the type of kid that will still be his same cheery self on the bench - perhaps with a bit less jumping around and dancing.

Get well, JBuggs and come back strong next year.
Re: KAEO: John Buggs III
I see him at home games. He continues to be into it!
I know the surgery is done. How’s his rehab going? Will he be ready for next season?

Re: KAEO: John Buggs III
He's still on crutches with a pretty big brace on his knee in most of the pictures I've seen.... Guessing its way too early to prognosticate on how soon he'll be able to play basketball. Even if he's ready for next season, ACL's are usually closer to a 2 year deal for fully up-to-speed and healthy for basketball players.

Interesting in light of continued speculation over 2020/21 recruiting. Can a player get get a 2-year medical redshirt?

Re: KAEO: John Buggs III
In rare circumstances, I think you can get a 6th year to play your 4. I think he will be back and probably getting minutes at some point next season, I'm just basing it on the history of guys who have torn ACL's in basketball it usually the 2nd year that they are "back to being themselves."

Re: KAEO: John Buggs III
Didn't we have a FB player that did that?
Re: KAEO: John Buggs III
I have never torn my ACL or played athletically above the high-school level, but I believe the longer time for basketball is due to the range of motion differences between football and basketball. Football is much more stop and go, straight-line type of game. For basketball you are constantly moving and starting and stopping on a dime. This is probably why the re-injury rate is higher in basketball than in football as well. It will be very important to be patient with Buggs - not just for the teams sake but for his sake as well.
