Game 4, 2018-2019 Howard 11/16/18

The first game of of Las Vegas Tournament. They are a low DI team and have played 3 weak teams, but they scare me. They are averaging 107 points a game. We played a weak Lowell team and it was close. They have size and speed. Should we win, absolutely but we have to come out with an attitude.

"Embarrassing effort against Harvard?" I mean we lost by 3 to a good club, a club that is good even without the two guys they were missing. We played 2 guys who played meaningful minutes last year for us.Harvard is well coached and their freshman Kirkwood is outstanding. Was it a great performance by the minutemen? No. Was it an "embarrassing effort"? No. Let's let the process play out. This team is going to have some difficult nights in November and December but let's not go overboard here.

Those are some fancy scoring totals for the Bison, but I have never heard of any of the schools they have played...they all might be Division 4.

We should win this one rather handily. Two things I'd like to see:

A good defensive performance -- both in effort and execution. I think for the most part our issues at that end haven't been with effort but execution. Would like to see both be consistently good.

Good ball movement. Wasn't really much of an issue until the Harvard game then some folks disappeared and Pip went into last year mode a bit (which he is very good at but the offense is going to be at its best if that's how we are playing).

I know.. I'm not sure why people think Harvard sucks. I look at is as we didn't play great and only lost by 3 to a solid team.

don't want to dwell on harvard in this thread. but to clarify: embarrassing in the sense of basketball 101 - no defense, no rebounding, no hustle, and forcing shots. that's embarrassing to me. you're right harvard is a good team with a terrific coach. it was a winnable game, but not the worst loss.

who knows, maybe i expected more from this squad. maybe they just need time.

I thought I read on the blog somewhere that most if not all games will be on espn+ this year. I could not find where I saw it. Can someone verify this? or shed some insight? Thank you.

There are a few of us that see the Harvard game as winnable except for the things that the captain mentions. UMass can ill afford to lose many winnable games in terms of attracting fans. Fair or not, there is an urgency here. 2500 or so fans that will make most games is just not enough.

I was really disappointed with the loss. Being there and seeing how one dimensional we were on offense, especially at the end, made me sad. I don't see where "embarrassing" is applicable. The stats were very even and we outscored them in the second half. I don't know where the offense went in the last couple of minutes--that would be coaching, IMHO. In any case, very disappointing.
