KAEO: Jalen Thomas

Since he committed today, might as well have a thread for him. Here’s a story with some quotes:

This appears to be a very nice get. Happy with this one!

3 star, #3 player in Michigan. Great job. Love to see some video if anyone has a link.

Yeah, when I posted that description of him in the general 2019 thread, he sounded too good to be true. Great great recruiting job by the coaches.

A great commit, he sounds like a good kid as well. Talented big guys are tough to get, welcome to UMASS Jalen!

Great pickup. I think this gives us 13 guys for next year unless somebody transfers (I wouldn't be surprised if Pipkins leaves)

As of today, I do not see Pipkins leaving. He has the chance to obtain rock star status here over the next two years. Great pickup with Thomas.

I just think Pip may want to play one year in P5 conference. I know Illinois is still kicking themselves because they past on him

Maybe pickups like this will convince Pip to stay if, in fact, he is thinking of leaving.

I hope so.. Thomas will be two year starter leaving for NBA in 2021 after our next Final 4 appearance.

We've filled the one open slot we know about. We'll have a fairly good idea who might be leaving if we take another commit before the season is over.
That's assuming MM fills the opening with a player of the same position but that's not a certainty. It will break my heart of LP leaves because he has a chance to end up as one of UMass' all-time great players.

I think they need two things to help keep Pip here next year. One is a good season this year, with an uptick in Mullins attendance/enthusiasm. The other is a tougher schedule next year, one with the potential for some national TV exposure.
