^ Kleinschmidt's performance against us is top ten in the past thirty years!

#UMass 2021 F/C target Brian Mathews is slated to announce his college commitment tomorrow on his 17th birthday

#Minutemen have been recruiting Mathews strongly for several months now, and they need a young big to add to the roster behind Tre Mitchell

^ He's announcing at 5:00 Eastern Time.
Re: 2021 Recruiting
I think we all knew this was coming. He averaged 23 per game against what I think was mediocre competition. I wonder if he'll go to Woodstock for a year to up his game?

Mathews has comitted to UMass per his twitter account! Welcome aboard!!
Re: 2021 Recruiting
Felt like this was inevitable for awhile now. Don’t know very much about him but saw on Twitter that today is his 17th birthday so he’s young. Looks like he’s got some good size and length with some room to grow. What I’ve read makes it seem like he’s pretty solid across the board, although I don’t know anything about the people who wrote it. At any rate he’s the future big it sounds like.
A couple of scholarships left I think — would love some more shooting, another point guard and more size but with some athleticism. That Jai Smith kid sounds very intriguing if they could get him to reclassify but I don’t have any idea how much of a shot we have at him, let alone getting him to move up a year.

Re: 2021 Recruiting
^ Assuming nobody else leaves, and that's a real stretch, we do have 2 spot open. Mathews replaces Gasperini. I would opt for a shooter and another big. I think we have enough wings. Watching his videos, he looks like a good rebounder. He has good instincts and times his jumps well.
I'm seeing posts that Tyriek may finish high school in RI and then do a PG prep year so he ends up as a 2022. That is speculation at this point, but he needs to play against tougher competition. NERR has him at #40 in New England and that surprised me. I think RI high school BB is what's keeping him so low.

Of course he is going to choose the college that has just been picked by The Princeton Review as having the best campus dining in the U.S. for the fifth straight year! @UMassBasketball @BigB091

Re: 2021 Recruiting
I watched Mathews JR highlights and was like ehhh.. a step slow, not super athletic but looks like a really hard worker with a nice touch and good hands... then I realized he was only 16 in the tape. Looks to be a good get.
Re: 2021 Recruiting
Anyone know if we’re still involved with Mac Etienne? I heard a rumor he’s leaving towards a school that would surprise some people and I was holding out hope for us.
Probably unwarranted but can’t hurt to ask
