2021 Recruiting

Post by 78 » Wed Sep 19, 2018 5:18 pm

We've offered 2021 point guard Trey Moss. Reportedly, we are the first offer.

First, happy Fathers Day to all of the dads out there.

Time to bring this thread closer to the top. Pure speculation on my part, but could this be the Tony Bergeron effect on recruiting? We have recently offered 3 players from Mass Rivals from the class of 2021.

We also just offered PG Joseph Bensley from Arlington (hometown of yours truly). Has some good other offers like Iowa and Rhody too. Let’s keep some of these guys home.

Don’t think Tony is the lead on this

^^ In a way, I'm glad to hear that. It may mean that at least 1 other person on staff has some recruiting connections, or it could just be MM on the recruiting trail.

:o :o :o

Not sure if anyone else besides our friend OFFseason knew about this, but I feel like that's a great bit of information. Seems like Mccall understands the best way to make the program relevant again is by making in-roads in the New England prep ranks. Even if you aren't getting the "A tier" recruits (high 4 and 5 star guys) there's enough of talent in the NEPSAC for UMass to get some great players

Could that be how you build a program?

I posted this comment in the "2019-20 Season" thread when Cormier was announced:

"Good for us. I see Bamford Senior's footprint all over this."

It fits here as well.
"Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. "He was the greatest coach to ever coach here."

^ Steve Bamford is a retired college AD and ECAC commissioner. He lives in MA and has tremendous connections. He is very active on twitter and seems to know everyone and everything about our program. Recent tweets that I remember were Steve congratulating Marty Jacobson on his honorary degree and Darrice Griffin on an honor she received. He would know Cormier well from their ECAC days.

Here's a link that will show you the depth of what he has done:
http://www.ecacsports.com/sports/2016/5 ... aspx?id=92&

My comment is not meant to take anything away from MM or Ryan, and this all might be coincidence, but if you have an asset available, you certainly should utilize it.
