was the lack of beer or wine the reason that anyone stayed away? To me it's a nice to have not a need to have. Rather have a competitive basketball/football team than miller lite keg for $11 a drink.

It's a nice to have. And if it's $11 per beer, it will fail immediately. I think this department is much smarter than that... Amherst is not Boston. Hell, even BU doesn't sell them at that price.

We'll find out in less than 2 weeks.

Does anyone think the price of beer will affect attendance? I don't. It's a nice perk to have beer and wine sales but that won't lure age 21 students or the casual fan to the games. The price will affect in-game alcohol sales, but that's about all as far as I can see.

Funny...there was a time when several posters suggested selling alcohol at the Bill as a way to boost atrendance and liven up the crowds.

Now that it’s here, the sense I get from this thread is that the response is lukewarm.

The news was very well received on Twitter. It's a good and long overdue addition. Will it help sell the place out? No. If it drives a few extra people to go or to stay longer while there, it's a benefit.

The folks courtside last year certainly seemed to enjoy the alcohol sales last year. I expect the general crowd will too.

Whoever said it's a nice to have, not a need to have, I guess it all depends on how the team does. If we're down by 30 to Shitstick State, it's a need to have.

The higher the sales, the more cops will be assigned to follow our fans home!

I just thought of a major positive factor. Maybe it will loosen up the old geysers (not including myself) and get them to make some noise!!! :D

^ "geysers" Deliberate pun?

A possible downside is that alcohol could fuel 'disputes' about standing. Some who sit and drink might be emboldened. Just sayin'...either that or they'll loosen up and stand and cheer as well.

No, I wish it were. Call it a senior moment. Spellcheck doesn't fix stupidity. :(

This is a big deal to those that follow the department closely. The politics behind this decision are interesting to those in the know. Many, many people had to sign off on this and/or have arms twisted to do so. This has been discussed for several years; glad to see it come to fruition.

The lack of alcohol sales was money left on the table in terms of product sales and ticket sales. I don’t think the lack of alcohol kept people home, but I do think the availability will attract new fans once word gets out. I know some hockey fans went to TBird games instead of UMass games due partially to beer.

If the price of alcohol is similar to the prices in the Hunt Room and Commonwealth Hockey Club, expect $6-$7 for 12 ounces. I can’t see them pricing booze like at a Pats game.
