Game 25, 2017-18: at Saint Joe's (2/10)

Post by MikeUMA » Mon Feb 05, 2018 2:24 pm

A God-send this week as we get a bye for the mid-week game, then on to Saint Joe's for 4PM Saturday. No TV, streaming on A10 Network.

Until Saturday's win over Dayton, our last win was over Saint Joe on 1/14. That was the last in the 3 straight comebacks.

SJU will play at Davidson tomorrow night. Davidson returns home after thumping GW by 29 this weekend. SJU has lost 4 straight, likely to be 5 straight going into our game.

SJU / Davidson will be on Stadium if you want to watch. https://watchstadium.com/live/

Davidson hit almost as many 3s (20) as SJU did total field goals (22) last night. DC 91 - SJU 62. Hawks dropped their 5th straight. They're eager for a win and we're up next.

Blowout win for Davidson, with nine (9!) players hitting 3s. Joe's also had 7 different guys hit from deep, but none of their starters hit >50% from deep and 4 of Davidson's starters hit multiple 3s, with only Aldridge below 50% (he was merely 5 of 11 on 3s, 13 of 22 overall). The blowout led to big minutes for Longpre (a freshman), who at 6'10" is their only big. His only A10 game with more minutes was at UMass. Guess they need someone to counter Hines and hopefully a continuing-to-improve KTM.

St. Joe's will be looking for revenge on Saturday. We beat them 3 times last year and there was the comeback win earlier this year. I was thinking that a healthy Baldwin was important until I looked at the box score of the last game. He played 11 minutes with 2 points and 3 boards.

They only played 6 guys, but they were missing Oliva, who also missed all 3 games last year. He gives them more size and quickness in their front court. To offset that I'm looking for a lot more from Malik this game. He played 21 minutes, 0 points and 3 boards. He has played great lately and we need that going forward.

My prediction for this game lies in the title of the thread: AT Saint Joe's. I don't trust this team outside of Mullins yet.

Davidson is scary good at home minus that 3 point slip up to Richmond a few games ago.

Don't see that there is any way to watch the game this afternoon.

It's on A10 Network. Just click Watch on the GW game, it will take you to St Joe's game.

I find this really easy to navigate. Just go to atlantic10.org, then use the WATCH tab and then click on Live Events Schedule. There you will see the whole list of games being broadcast. You'll see that a few of them are checked off as premium. The rest, in my experience, are free. Including our game.

I know every game is the “biggest game of the year” by this point in the season, but it feels especially true for this one.

SJU is favored by 6.5 or 7 depending upon the site. Matt's article on Baldwin mentions that McLean missed practice on Thursday due to illness. We can't afford another injury/illness or anything else with this short a roster.
