The schedule works to our benefit with only one game between Dec 12 and Dec 30 and that's with a fairly weak opponent. That gives Baptiste and the team time to work together before Georgia and the beginning of conference play.

^ It's my understanding that it has nothing to do with UMass' academic calendar, and everything to do with that of Vanderbilt. He needs to complete his work at Vanderbilt to graduate, upon which he can come to UMass and immediately play.

Another break for us is that the exam period at Vandy ends on 12/15 whereas here it's 12/20.

This must be a generational thing. Are you condoning hiding behind a screen name on social media as an acceptable method?
Maybe I could have worded it better, since I was talking about the guy who did go to twitter. What I meant to say was "if that guy had simply gone to twitter and said a more reasonable 'I don't agree with keeping your hood on during the anthem' rather than lobbing insults, then..."

Yelling at people during the anthem was not a correct thing to do.

In fact, it's FAR more disrespectful of the anthem than wearing a hoodie.

I thought it was said that they didn't yell during the anthem? Stupid either way, but just a point of clarification is all.

The yelling happened as the ROTC color guard was making their way to the floor prior to the anthem beginning. But the place was dead quiet while the flags were being brought out so yelling at that point could be viewed as disrespectful.

Thank you for the clarity. Agreed on viewing that as disrespectful as well.

Anybody have any insight on Hayward from LSU? He’s absolutely buried on the bench...is he injured, are they potentially thinking about a redshirt (seems unlikely)..is there a discipline issue? Can’t believe he transferred here from LSU for this scenario...I know we have depth at guard but he hasn’t played in 3-4 straight.

He's just missed the last two games and he's already redshirted a year so they won't redshsirt him again. Maybe he has a minor injury or maybe they don't think he's matched up well or maybe he's not practiced well or maybe... (anyone, jump in here).

I was wondering the same thing. On Monday's coaches show, Coach McCall specifically mentioned that the Holy Cross game might be a good time for him to get in because of his jump shot. Apparently not.

I think when McCall realized that his team was playing awful defense it made no sense to put Hayward in at that point. He probably thought it might be a close game, but not one in which Umass gave up 82 points. It's pretty clear what Hayward's role is. 3-pt shooter off the bench. He wouldn't have served much of a purpose against HC.

So now with Djery and Randall on board, we have 16 guys - all 13 scholarship guys with no redshirts and 3 walk-ons. Maybe Franklin is still not available, making 15. I can't imagine handling 15 egos. The highest level I ever coached was high school jv, with 10 or 11. That was tough enough. Thoughts and prayers to MM trying to keep this group all involved!
