URIne fans can thank UMass for their current AD and for Al Skinner.

Can’t say UMass can thank URIne for anything....

Yes NilesGold, Blue Man is something else.
On a personal level - I had gotten in fights in high school at PC games. That kind of wore off.

There was never a time as a student that fists didn't get thrown at Amherst. In rugby, I can say without a doubt in my 10+ years of playing at the collegiate and men's levels, even overseas - they were the dirtiest, scummiest, worst group of men I've ever played against.

Their fans, their people, their teams...all scum. In all sports. In all walks of life.

Just because we lost a couple of close games to a non-conference rival who affected our NCAA standing not one iota - will never equal the hurt I still hold from the '09 senior day game. Matt Glass threw one of the dirtiest moving picks I've ever seen on Ulmer and Chris Lowe took so many steps that Sportscenter stopped the highlight to count them.

If any of you need a reminder of why you should hate them more than PC, why don't you find the video clip and press play? Maybe it'll bring back the contingent of UMass fans from the rafters screaming U-MASS all over the arena while I sat in my seat in complete silence until the arena lights started to get turned off?

For all of you blind PC haters, at least this rivalry is steeped in history that continued while the internet and videos existed.

That wrapped up another patented Baron Collapse, and kept us from another NCAA tournament birth.

If this rivalry doesn't get the blood flowing and you look at it as a cute sibling rivalry that doesn't have actual hatred, I am lost on what I should say to you.

Fuck UMass. Bury them Wednesday.
Former UMass Rugby player here ('01-'05). I'm not sure we ever played URI during my time at UMass. They were a bottom-feeding program that other teams would schedule for easy preseason tuneups. We would play Boston College, UNH, Brown, Harvard, Army, Norwich and other programs that had proper players.

Also, I played the game for more than a decade, and you typically hear this type of language - "dirtiest, scummiest, worst group of men" - from players and/or programs who have a winning problem. In fact, just this year Rhody lost to UMass 36-13. It wasn't an unexpected win as URI just earned the right to be a Division 1A program, so they are still going through growing pains.

I know they just moved up because of a post on the team's site:

"Following several successful seasons that saw Rhode Island capture the New England Collegiate Rugby Conference title and advance to the USA Rugby D2 regional final, we have moved up to D1A this fall to compete a consistently higher level, joining New England powers such as Massachusetts, Boston College, Northeastern as well as metropolitan NY area schools such as Fordham, Fairfield, Iona and Stony Brook."

I'm just glad the team this person allegedly played for was able to set the record straight about the UMass rugby team - "New England powers."

That Matt Glass/Chris Lowe play will be etched in my memory as one of the all-time great UMass basketball moments (or 6 seconds). :D :D :D

I just don't understand why some fans don't like our team or fans. I just don't get it.

Ha, glad to see we still get under their skins. Regardless of games outcome if we can make Hurley insane that would be great! Hope Holloway is available as all hands will need to be on deck for this one.
BTW, in reading the start of the RI post it looks like we are pretty close to matching last years WL records. And this with a depleted team!! Impressive IMHO!

As if you don’t need another reason to hate that scum school, this was recently posted on their board. There is more class in Olean.

Dumb fake Holliday is so annoying right after xmas and new years.... Couldn't they just add MLK day as a hyphen to presidents day or smth..

Can't wait to get down there tomorrow. Their fans are mostly dinks, but that place has a great atmosphere and it's always fun to watch a game there. You're very close to the action from almost any seat as well. Will be nice to see a few of our former UMass friends who work within their Athletic Department as well.

That whole thread is pretty respectful with an honest appraisal of the two teams and their history

I really don't see us beating URI, actually less than a 10% chance to be quite honest. URI fans seem to think the game will be closer than I would imagine. I'll respect their opinion about that.

Don't think we will win, but hoping we can at least play them tough. I've seen Rhody I think 3 times this year and they were very good for the most part.

Offensively, I think taking care of the ball is the biggest thing and then figuring out how to get something done inside with or without RH. Rhody does an awesome job of turning folks over and limiting threes.

Defensively, I think, how we contain their perimeter dudes off the dribble and keeping them off the offensive glass will be the keys. It'll be interesting to see how we match up with their perimeter dudes. I think CJ's gonna be the main guy on Terrell, other than that there are a few ways we could go against their other dudes and none of them of are great options. Unique could be a key guy at that end for us and hopefully Pip can put some pressure on the ball.

I can't say that I'd call this respectful...
