Seems like a pretty good get. Coach had 2 positions of need and he went out and got seemingly talented guys. In just the little searching around on Tre, he seems like a kid that works his ass off to get better.

I like this commit a lot. Fills a position of need, plus the kid really looks like a worker, just look at his video and see how much stronger he looks from 2016. Quick, good handle, shoots it well. Welcome Tre, looking forward to you being a part of the new era under Coach McCall

Was wondering which pg we would end up with. Wood looks athletic and sounds like a hard worker. That's a good start. He should get better going up against Pip and Clergeot in practice too.

Welcome aboard Tre! Congrats to the staff and looking forward to seeing this squad next year. Coach looks like he putting a talented team together for the future. Surprised there are so few comments on the commitment?

A lot of pessimism after he posted about his visit on Twitter. Shows the need to take social media with a grain of salt.

Very impressed by Tre Woods - he has a great instinct for the game, and gives it 100% on both ends of the court. He looks hungry on the court and most importantly, he finds a way for the team to score. It’s been a while since we had a PG that can drive to the key and dish out for open baskets, we depended too much on standing around and forced 3’s in recent years.

Ohhhh, I'm liking this. Fearless, creates space, goes both ways, old school on his 3 point form. Oh, yeah!

This was a good signing, a very good one in fact. First pure PG we've had in what feels like forever. Good decision maker, defends, seems to have a good head on his shoulders. McCall is really building something here. Diallo and Wood are both great pieces and Clergeot, Cobb and Laurent have already proven themselves at the collegiate level.

I agree this is a good signing...just wondering what makes you think he is a good decision maker. He very well might be but the espn scouting report makes me think that is one area he needs to work. I'm not sure how much you can tell about a kid's basketball iq from highlight clips. I think you need to watch him play to determine that. I do think he's gonna be pretty good though.

I am also optimistic about the program and kids that have been brought in, but I'm not sure how much clergeot has proven at the college level. I do think he's gonna be good too, I just don't think he proved much at Memphis.

Geez is he fun to watch. Can't wait to see him in a UMass uniform. In the meantime, 32 more days.

I agree, this line from the scouting report makes me a little nervous:

Code: Select all

"Lastly, Tre’s decision-making and intention of making plays for others — not just himself — could make or break his possible high-level recruitment"
This is written in a way that makes me think he can get a little selfish with the ball and not get his teammates involved enough. I hope I'm wrong, and of course he can and hopefully will develop that part of his game.

I wouldn't say I'm nervous...I don't know enough about the kid to say that. I'm just saying that unless you watch a kid play an actual game, it's hard to determine his instincts and decision making. That's all.

He seems pretty well regarded by the scouting community and the coaching staff obviously likes him so it sounds like he's gonna be a good player.

That's where the coaching comes in once he gets here. Bring in the guys with the right tools, then it's up to the staff to teach 'em how to develop those skills. Looking forward to seeing MM work with this team
