My guess is Keon is gone and will transfer to a school in Florida or go to Europe depending on how his season goes

I see a few folks going gaga over Garcia on Twitter because of the #'s he put up in the EYBL. A couple of dudes (younger Twitter dudes who seemed to be tuned into the game) have even said he's a Top 50 or Top 75 recruit. I don't put a ton of stock in rankings (especially after the first grouping or two) but that's pretty high praise. I have a couple of reservations about this, though:

1) I think he was probably a year older than most players in the EYBL since he reclassified
2) Looking at numbers without watching folks play much is a tricky deal. #'s can be accumulated in all sorts of ways and it doesn't mean that guys are necessarily great players (Ricky Davis says hi!) But maybe these folks have watched him play a bit (I am guessing EYBL games are available to stream) -- I'm not the hoops junkie I once was but I am guessing some folks are.

I say all this thinking the kid is hopefully going to be a big piece of the puzzle when he arrives and that he's going to be a good player. I'm happy he's coming. And I hope he is as good as his EYBL #'s indicate he could be -- he did put up good numbers in a lot of different areas so that's very encouraging.

Numbers aren’t anything but his numbers match those of some of the most elite prospects in the country one and done types. Averaging 23 is impressive

I think the 23 is per 36. But yup they are impressive across the board. Never said otherwise.

I’ve interacted with Kevin Sweeney a lot on twitter and he really knows what he’s talking about and is not often wrong in his evals. Him calling Garcia the “heist of the 2020 class” means more to me than if he had been a 4-star player with P5 offers. Even if top-75 or whatever people have been saying is a bit of an exaggeration, the bottom line is that he’s the second possibly game-changing recruit we’ve landed in two consecutive years. LFG. I know we all know as UMass fans to never count on good things, but it is very hard to not see us being one of the better teams in the A10 in a few seasons.

Seniors:
Sy, Samba, Baj

Juniors:
Tre, TJ, Santos, East, +

Soph:
Garcia, Cairo

That’s a hell of a rotation with those names alone

Yeah I’m feeling optimistic about the talent coming in...I just prefer to watch guys play more or have some good opinions from people I know and trust who have watched guys play before I get too giddy. I know that Sweeney kid (since he’s still in college I feel ok calling him kid) seems to know hoops — just not sure how much he’s actually watched this kid play. Maybe a bunch I don’t know...

Anywho happy he’s coming.

excited about this recruit and will happily drink the kool aid until i actually see him play. our goal to become New England University gets another push.

anyone know where we stand - if anywhere - with Noah Farrakhan or Noah Hutchinson?

Farrakhan was for sure an offer given by Rasheen Davis so is say we are all the way out there

Welcome aboard Javohn! Looks like this young man can play. He has nice size for a guard.
Here is a link from YouTube: https://youtu.be/bdiG05zR56M
Enjoy

Wonder if this means we are done for a bit here. I think they were poking around for another pg but maybe Garcia fills that spot (even if he doesn’t appear to be a pure pg) and they will be a bit thin in terms of true bigs if it’s just Tre (Sy and Dibaji — if he adds some strength — can help out a bit but still.)

Seems like the plan is to roll out a bunch of interchangeable kids with decent size and length and varying levels of athleticism to press on defense and different skill sets to play either up tempo or in the halfcourt on offense. At least that’s what I think they are trying to do.

Will be interesting to see how it all comes together.

I read a number of articles on Garcia and he appears to be a kid who has improved each year. A season at Brewster can only make him better. Brewster plays an awesome schedule and they are right up there with Woodstock as a high level prep program.

I saw that as a senior, Garcia was 2nd team All-Ohio in Division I, the highest division. As someone mentioned earlier, with Walker, Garcia and McCrory we are 1 over the scholarship limit. We are a bit heavy in the guard/wing category. I'm not going to speculate on who might leave, but it wouldn't shock me if we signed another big and had 2 guards/wings depart.

It should be really fun to watch him play at Brewster and what his impact is on that team. They already have guys in the 2020 class committed to Kentucky, BC, Minnesota, & Miami.. Absolutely stacked roster

I have the same reaction more or less. Thin at center, over-stocked at wing/PG. It will be interesting to see how it works out. One thing that concerns me is how nine wings/PGs are gonna get enough playing time. Actually, that's more a reflection of the huge recruiting class this year. We have ten freshmen and sophomores. It's gonna be tricky.

Saw that the Odukale kid was on an unofficial visit today. Not sure it means anything as he is right down the road in Springfield but it’s interesting.

I think the most important part about Garcia's commit is that we are establishing a connection to the top prep schools in New England. Brewster Academy gets some of the best talent in the country, and the better our networking is with them, the brighter our future will be.

Glad to see we got a PG for the future as well. But he scores a lot, so he is probably more of a combo guard, do we still not have that "true" PG?
