2020 Recruiting
Re: 2020 Recruiting
I'd agree with TJ because of the UMass connection with his father, but I'd say Preston was the beginning of the connection of Tony coming whether he was hired yet or not. Earlier stories had said he was interested in the UMass job. I'm glad he is here

I think your first sentence sums it up. He could improve by the time next year rolls around or he might not. I would agree with you about his conference play but was encouraged by what he did over the last few games. He seemingly snapped out of a lengthy slumber. No idea how good he would have become here — I just think there was enough there to not close the door.NilesGold wrote: ↑Fri Mar 27, 2020 7:54 amWho knows what kind of player East would've been next year, but if we look at what he did during conference play this year, I don't think there's a lot of value in having someone who shoots 33% from the field if their best role/attribute is providing scoring off the bench.

Re: 2020 Recruiting
I know some folks were hoping for him and he sounds like a pretty solid recruit, but I'm hoping for that other NY kid who has length that would get Jay Bilas visibly aroused and also looks pretty fluid.
I'm kind of meh on grad transfers but if there's one that could fit then it would mean an open scholarship for the 2021 class.

Are you talking about Mounir Hima. I like him as a rim protector who needs to add strength but would be fine as a back upJackson96 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 27, 2020 12:16 pm I know some folks were hoping for him and he sounds like a pretty solid recruit, but I'm hoping for that other NY kid who has length that would get Jay Bilas visibly aroused and also looks pretty fluid.

Yeah that dude. The kid Rhody got is probably more game ready now but I think the Hima kid could eventually give us a dimension we’ve lacked for awhile as a shot blocker. I think Djery was pretty good in that regard but not great.

Regarding Ousmane, I suspected he would end up at URI where he has a chance to start on day 1. They're in need of front court help.

Hopefully we get our big this week

Now Samba announces his transfer. I'm not liking this at all. We're becoming Turnover U.

^ Ya, us and everyone else. Just wait until the new transfer rule goes into effect..
Re: 2020 Recruiting
In less than a week we've gone from wondering where the scholarships will come from to wondering where the players will come from. Who's left at Woodstock and are there former players in the transfer portal?
Re: 2020 Recruiting
The way teams are operating (read UMass and URIne), it appears they are pretty darn certain the transfer rule will change.DanaDingle3 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 30, 2020 4:13 pm ^ Ya, us and everyone else. Just wait until the new transfer rule goes into effect..
I think the Rider boys are on the way and more will come/go this offseason.

I’ve stopped commenting here, but I’m hoping one of those in the know can clue us in as to what is going on. That will be 5-6 new players on the team next year. I know the guys coming in are supposed to be talented, but I hate losing a character guy like Samba. I really admire him and how he’s fought for everything his whole life.
