RE: Commitment Announcement Posts

That's just how it's done these days. I don't think there's any real correlation with it and being self-important/selfless or hard-working/slacker.

Besides there's a lot of time and energy put in to get to the position where you're choosing between scholarship offers. If a 17, 18-year-old wants to show off a little for their hard work, I think that's okay.

While maybe not everyone is waiting to hear from him, the folks here, twitter, etc. have shown some level of interest! :D

Can we get some comps on the new guys? Not having seen any of them play, I'll hazard a guess on just one; Dominguez - Putney

Gasperini -
Dominguez -
DeGray -
McCrory -
Garcia -
Fernandez -
Sticking to just UMass comparisons, here's what I can come up with. Keeping in mind I'm not suggesting they're going to be as good as the comparison player, just that they might be a similar sort of player in terms of size, style, strengths, etc...

Gasperini - none I can think of from UMass, Matt Kavanaugh of Dayton from several years ago is the first guy who popped into my head, but I'm not sure how accurate that is.

Dominquez - Dibaji Walker is actually the closest comp I can think of. I can't remember what Etienne Brower was like, maybe they're similar?

DeGray - Terrell Vinson

McCrory - none I can think of from UMass, a poor man's Deandre Bembry is the best non-UMass comparison I can think of.

Garcia - none I can think of from UMass, Aaron Craft of Ohio State is the first guy who popped into my head, again not too confident in this one.

Fernandes - Edgar Padilla

So that means that Degray will be a "4" who won't rebound and shoot 28% from three but still insist on taking 5-6 of them per game? Oh, and give up the baseline on defense 90% of the time............. He had an NBA body.... what a waste.

I’m just waiting to see if anyone will compare Gasperini to a player who isn’t white. It is truly a rare moment when that happens.

I wasn't a big fan of Vinson but on his behalf I will say that he did hit 37% of his 3's as a senior. That said, I agree he did not rebound and his effort was inconsistent at best. I expect more than that from DeGray. He did have that OR to win the game against Memphis and I think he had another one like that against someone else.

Not quite len.....

TV shot 30.8% his senior year from 3 - hoisting up 107 of those babies and making 33 of them that year.... and he was a career 27.2% 3pt shooter at Umass. Slightly more than 1/3 of his shot attempts his senior year were 3 pointers........ Just what we want from our "4".....

I know the game has changed and that is more the norm today from that position to be fair....

Unfortunately senior season stat line was a playbook right our of the DK playbook.... TV was playing for himself to get and NBA contract at the expense of the team and DK was never able to reign him in while it was happening. Statistically he was no better his 3rd year than his 1st (and worse by many measurements).... What a shame.

I see 32-86 for a .372 average 3pt FG %

IIRC he hit over 40% in conference play. Maybe the 32% was non-conference.

Gasperini - We haven't had a ton of traditional bigs in recent years, at least that have gotten a lot of run. Smaller Holloway? Back to the basket guy with good hands?
Dominguez - Ty Flowers? Same frame and shooting ability. Not sure if Dominguez has more of a slasher's game as well?
DeGray - I actually like the Brower comp here more than for Dominguez.
McCrory - Lower ceiling Gary Forbes
Garcia - Higher ceiling Javorn Farrell
Fernandez - Chris Lowe? Size and stature has shades of Tiki Mayben, but seems like more of a pure floor general with less flash.

It’s ok. These type of comparisons can be of limited value, but, more importantly, we know that recall can be hard for Niles.

Did Tyler Bergatino self-identify as white?
