2020 Recruiting
Re: 2020 Recruiting
Both commits (McCrory and Garcia) have signed their letters. That's 2 more guards/wings at around 6'4-6'6. Seems like overload to me but they are both supposed to be good.

Re: 2020 Recruiting
Well I think outside the 5 and the 1, MM wants position less BBall. If you can get a bunch of guys 6'4 to 6'7 that can guard and shoot you will be pretty well off.. You can switch on D and not create mismatches
Re: 2020 Recruiting
Yeah I agree. I think they want kids who can all guard multiple spots (especially helpful when matching up in the halfcourt out of the press) and then can do some different things on offense.
Very happy with these two — biggest question mark would be their shooting, but I tend to think you can never have enough of it. They could be both be fine shooters, just haven’t heard much about it. Both seem pretty highly regarded, especially Garcia (odd he doesn’t have much of a national profile from the recruiting services given his performance at the EYBL which is arguably the most high profile summer event.)
At any rate I would guess Keon grad transfers. If more than one kid goes, I would suspect they might look for a big/bigger forward in the spring.

Supposedly Garcia was about to get some big power 5 offers but they backed off when they found out he was going to umassJackson96 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2019 3:52 pm Yeah I agree. Yeah I saw that too. No idea if it’s true but I saw that. I’m more talking about him not getting much pub from the recruiting services while the EYBL was going on. Maybe they did and I missed it.
At any rate it doesn’t mean all that much (much like most rankings) — I just find it curious that a dude who kicked so much ass in the biggest summer grassroots event didn’t get much publicity while kicking so much ass. Happy he’s coming...sounds like a kid who can get us shots. Like shooters can never have too many of them if you ask me.

He didn’t get it from the traditional big services. I do wonder if it is because he is PG and kind of a tweenerJackson96 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2019 6:05 pm Yeah I saw that too. Re: 2020 Recruiting
Feels like he’s recruiting depth.
Need bodies to play the pressing game he wants UMass to play. The deeper they are the easier it is to make large scale subs throughout the game so UMass can give it’s opponents its version of 40 minutes of hell.

Re: 2020 Recruiting
Well we do have a guy on the bench right now that's 6'9 and 3 years to play. I know he's more of a forward but I don't think we need a traditional big

Yeah it’s honestly more important that our bigs are mobile and can hedge hard on ball screens and even switch on to smaller players if neededTheInsider wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2019 6:23 amWell we do have a guy on the bench right now that's 6'9 and 3 years to play. Re: 2020 Recruiting
I forgot about the Odukale kid in Springfield. I think he’s been on campus a couple of times after Garcia committed so there would appear to still be some interest there and he’d be another mid-sized athlete for the cupboard. I think he just visited Olean and also WV and Huggy Bear are supposedly showing interest now.

Re: 2020 Recruiting
I still hope coach recruits another mobile big guy. The future is always uncertain, and there may be games where you need size to win. Having only 3 seems like flirting with disaster.
Re: 2020 Recruiting
I'm thinking more on the defensive side and rebounding; a replacement for Djery. If Tre has one weakness it's that he isn't a top notch shot blocker or interior defender. There are times when Djery enters the game and it changes the other team's offense from back cuts to outside shots. He's a great change of pace. Maybe Walker can do this but I've never seen him play.UMassfan_19 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2019 7:42 amYeah it’s honestly more important that our bigs are mobile and can hedge hard on ball screens and even switch on to smaller players if neededTheInsider wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2019 6:23 amWell we do have a guy on the bench right now that's 6'9 and 3 years to play. Re: 2020 Recruiting
We're not used to having Top 100 recruits. Many people here seem to think he'll go to the draft early.
