^ I'm OK with bringing in a second PG because there is always the possibility that the first one isn't as good as you thought or he just doesn't work out for whatever reason. Also, competition should make both of them better.

^Nothing wrong with having 2 good PGs. Depth is a good thing.

I don't even understand the lust for a second PG in this class. To me, the PG is the leader of the team, who sets the rhythm and the style, who organizes the offense. That can only be one guy. I personally don't think a team is effective with two PGs splitting the time more or less equally. The team can't get their style and identity that way. So if Kolton Mitchell decides to join us, then either he or Sean East should get the bulk of the playing time (assuming they are ready). One of them is gonna spend most of his time on the bench. That's a prescription for unhappiness in my book. These coaches, McCall and TB, know a zillion times more than me about the game, but I still think they would be better off saving that scholly for next year, when needs will become apparent and other recruits present opportunities.
If UMass already had a PG on the roster they wouldn't need two in this class, but they don't. You can't rely on having just one point guard, in the event of injury, foul trouble, etc. Personally I think you want the tone set by your coaching staff, and players should be following that. Sean East and Kolton Mitchell are versatile enough where they can play together.

I agree. Never know if someone goes down with injuries, academics or whatever. Need good facilitators to allow other guys to do their thing. Plus, if the talent is there, get it.
If it doesn't work out for one of them, transfers always happen and that scholly opens up again. But I do like the idea of a large class playing and developing together, and its a fun thing to watch

The chemistry is a big thing for me. I loved McCall's first year way more than last year. The guys played together, played hard, and never quit. And we were very shorthanded. Put more talent together, and have them all buy in and play for each other and this will be a good team. Been awhile since we've had talent and chemistry

Supporting anecdote to your view. I remember when Kellogg brought Chaz on board even though he had just gotten Daryl Traynham. They were gonna be in the same class and I thought, What's the point of that? But in that case, I think DK had a good idea that Traynham wasn't gonna make it.

Traynham had some good games, especially that one against New Mexico in Springfield. Kid had some sack. He almost got in a fight with one of their 7 footers that game. Had some exceptional passes

Well Mitchell just committed per his Twitter feed.

No idea how good he is but count me in as one of the guys who wanted two point guards. I think our lack of a point guard has hurt us a bit over the last few years. I also really like it when two points can play together — no idea if East and Mitchell can — but I do like it when they can.

Guess that's it, then. Team complete, all scholarships used.

Wonder if this will be the first time UMass started a season with 7 freshmen...it’s definitely going to be interesting. Here’s hoping they quickly develop team chemistry, work hard and get better as the season progresses. Anything better than a .500 season will be outstanding in my book.

I'm happy that he committed. I see a lot of potential in Kolton and I'm all for kids who want to be here.

But don’t we have 3 PGs? Buggs in the mix too.

Well 4 if you count the guy that's probably gonna start most of the year at the point. Keon

Keon might start at PG, but he, along with Buggs from what I've seen, aren't really point guards. I'm not sure when it will happen, but by the end of the season I expect Kolton or Sean East will be our starting PG.
