Man I wish you folks were scouting my high school baseball team that one game I had when I was a junior. 3-5, HR, 2 doubles, 5 RBI and I threw a kid out at third from right field trying to stretch a double into a triple. Still didn’t get any offers (insert some sort of emoji of a guy shrugging shoulders here). I guess I will always have that game.

This Mitchell kid is another point guard. Seems rather clear that’s the position we are looking at (which I am all for). Thinking the ships may have sailed on the Canadian kid and MAW, but I have no idea. Others we have heard are the Brooklyn kid who is a bit of a mystery, and the kid named Mondo who nobody in here seems to like based on their advanced scouting, and now Mitchell.

^ I mean, I'm not picking this kid out of thin air after watching some highlights and having zero other info on him. The staff thinks he's worth an offer and hosting him for a visit, that counts for something. And a lot of the stuff I saw I don't think can be faked... I'm not a baseball guy, but I imagine it's like if you watch two innings of a pitcher throwing 95 mph fast-ball strikes you know there's something there, right?

Yes it means he threw fast and threw strikes that day. Maybe he doesn’t throw strikes the next time out and the time after that. I think most folks who get paid to do this probably want to see someone play more than once unless the talent is so far off the charts they don’t have to. That is not Mitchell. If it was he would have been signed to Florida or another SEC/ACC school awhile back.

And yes you are probably basing your opinion off more than just the game...I still don’t think it’s a ton to go off of. He may very well be good — he sounds like he has a bit of potential, just not sure I’m ready to say I’m sold. If y’all are, that’s great!

For the record, the kid I knocked around in that game for the ages probably threw 65 mph. I don’t care, it was still glorious.

All of this is an inexact science at best and probably more of a pure crapshoot. If finding talent was easy, why was Roger Clemens passed on by 18 major league teams? Micheal Jordan by two. A friend runs a WHL hockey team. They are drafting every year 16-18 year old. After the top kids, he says it is a complete and total roll of the dice over how kids develop as they mature and age. You look for things. You try to find intangibles. But after the top 25 kids, there are so many factors in their development. I trust the coaches to find the best kids who fit the program and buy into what they are trying to do.

Yeah you have to trust the coaches until they prove you can’t trust them. I don’t think it’s been proven either way with this staff yet for a variety of reasons. And so I’ll trust them until they prove otherwise. If they prove otherwise. I hope they don’t.

Here’s one recruit that I am sold on and it only took two minutes! Plays above the rim, inspires his teammates, ball skills...he’s the total package. Hope we get him...

Funniest thing is they go to a timeout and then like a Superman costume change they suddenly all run back onto the court in grey jerseys.

Personally I’d say it’s far too early to say McCall has stabilized the program. Six, possibly 7 new players (freshmen) on the roster doesn’t sound like stabilization to me. I’m waiting for the end of next season to see if the program is stable.
I agree. It’s definitely too early. I too need to see how the season goes before I have a feel for the stability of the program.

When you have a guy who coached him for an entire year on your staff I think you got to trust his judgement when it comes to passing on certain players.
Interesting because his commitment to URI is getting more love than all the other players from Woodstock who committed to UMass besides Tre. Everyone’s saying this is a big time steal. But whatever, we know best here right?

People said the same about TJ. Toppin is very similar to guys already on the roster. I think if Bergeron thought he would be a good fit we would be involved

What happened to the other Woodstock forward we were courting, Ronnie DeGray?

Enjoyed his visit but is still waiting to decide. Said his teammates already here were recruiting him hard.
