2019 Recruiting
Re: 2019 Recruiting
^ I don't think redshirting an eligible and healthy player makes any sense for coaches to do in today's landscape of grad transfers.
I expect the last spot will go to a PG who will compete/split time with East.
Barring injuries to others, I expect KTM will rarely play, and both CJ Jackson and John Buggs will play very limited minutes. Baptiste and Mitchell will take up the bulk of the minutes at 5, Chatman & Diallo will take up most of the minutes at 4. Then you have Carl, Santos, and Weeks on the wing (2/3), and Keon, East, and PG TBD at guard (1/2). Of course there will be a little spillover, where maybe Mitchell plays some 4 alongside Baptiste, or Diallo slides down to the 3, or they go small and Santos plays the 4.

^ You are probably right regarding the grad transfer situation and I guess it's up to the coaching staff (if we ever get one) to be clear up front about playing time.
What do you think of Anderson?

Re: 2019 Recruiting
Lol sheesh when I said “his tape” I only meant his mixtape/highlight tape. I figured you would know what I meant and that I don’t have a compilation of him switching on screens sitting around my house.Jackson96 wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2019 7:16 am
Maybe folks missed on him, though and maybe he is very capable of it, I don’t know. Nobody (at least nobody in our shoes) does. We are not scouts. Highlight videos on YouTube are not “tape” — fans sound ridiculous when those among us say “watch the tape!” about a highlight video. You are not a coach sleeping in your office watching the All-11’s to see how to slow down the Rams in the Super Bowl.
Ok, rant over. The kid hopefully will be able to help us a bit as he gets stronger.

Does he bring some sick beats along with him? Could help amp everyone up during practices a bit more.Slapthefloor93 wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2019 11:12 amLol sheesh when I said “his tape” I only meant his mixtape/highlight tape. Yeah I figured that’s what you meant. Admittedly it’s probably just a “get off my lawn” item for me that is exasperated by the internet bringing out 2 million draft “experts” that watch “tape”...Slapthefloor93 wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2019 11:12 amLol sheesh when I said “his tape” I only meant his mixtape/highlight tape. I do think it’s dangerous (well not dangerous this is sports we are talking about) to assume a kid can play a position because of a few nice passes in a highlight reel/tape/compilation/stream/video. I might actually start using the term sizzle reel like they do in the tv industry. I think the fact that the coaches are apparently recruiting another point guard after already getting one recently in how they view Jackson.
I will try not to get annoyed by the word tape. Can’t promise anything, but I’ll try.

Here is the tape https://youtu.be/N-g8EtN0mVU
Jackson is right that it’s a dangerous assumption that he can step in and play PG, but at the very least, he seems like a competent ball-handler with good athleticism and vision - someone who could conceivably be molded into a PG down the line.
Outside of body type and athleticism, Deeky was a bad comparison on my part because Deeky is much more of a PG mentally. Diallo May be a better comparison, but I really wish I could see more then just the couple of videos that are available.

He has great size for a guard and can shoot it pretty well. Welcome to UMass C.J Jackson!

Looks good on tape for a two star guy. I wonder what his weaknesses are.
Like the size and passing ability. Perhaps it's a new version of CJ Anderson.
