2019 Recruiting
Re: 2019 Recruiting
The Falzon kid might be Siena bound.
Adams-Woods cut Siena and Buffalo from his list but is visiting St Joes and may visit a couple of other unnamed schools. He may very well commit to us but I don’t exactly have the warm and fuzzies given he had a chance to pick us in the fall and didn’t and now is taking his time in the spring. Not blaming him — it’s a big decision — I just think he has to know all he can about us and isn’t pulling the trigger. We will see I guess. He seems like he would fit in nicely at a position of need.
The Maidoh kid got an offer from Georgia in the annual spring game of high majors look around and realize they have a scholarship left and decide to try and use it. No feel for him at all but he’s getting more and more interest here.

We got everyone that gave us verbals except the guy from Detroit (already forgot his name). Weeks and Mitchell and in early signing Buggs and Santos. Everyone else we offered but haven't gotten verbals

Re: 2019 Recruiting
Getting a little nervous we didn't get any early commitments from a PG. Mika still seems to be in play but is planning visits to other schools. Haven't heard much about any of the other guys we were pursuing. We don't want anyone lukewarm either which can just lead to problems down the road.

I'm not that nervous. I dont think these names will be much better than Buggs and may sow some discontent. Would like to see a 5th year or Juco. But think people are overhyping some of the freshmen point guards in the mix.
Re: 2019 Recruiting
Never really understood the urgency for a PG. Buggs IS a PG.

And keon at the end of the year showed hes more than serviceable
Re: 2019 Recruiting
Buggs is as much a PG as Pipkins was a PG - in that he can play it but his skill set is not that of a primary ball handler. I mean when the kid himself (Buggs) is asked directly if he's a point guard and he says he's a combo guard - you should probably try to find someone(s) that is a true PG.

Re: 2019 Recruiting
Does McCall's style of offense really need a true point guard? I'm not so sure based on what I've seen in 2 years.
I'm not advocating against or for him bringing in a true point guard, but there seems to be a huge emphasis on it both here and on twitter and I'm not sure why.

We need someone who is skilled at getting the ball into the post (Mitchell). Based on who we have right now, the offense will revolve around Pierre and Mitchell.

You don't need to be a true point guard to be skilled at getting the ball into the post.

No but there are several other things I would be much more confident having a true blooded PG on the roster for... Setting up the offense, bringing the ball up/beating the press. IV you're right in the fact that the team wouldn't be totally doomed without one, but it is the biggest need by a pretty wide margin on this roster.

I don't disagree. I'll be happy if they get one but I don't think the world will burn if they get someone else... or if they bank the scholarship for next year. I'm sure we'll know soon enough.

Re: 2019 Recruiting
I'm just not seeing how Mica and some of the new names are going to be "true" point guards compared to Buggs. Any true freshman is going to struggle. Buggs has really bought in the program. Hes a top student too. A lot of intangibles. I dont think his recruit ratings are indicative of his potential. Like his game/character a lot.
It would be ideal to get an upperclassman/JUCO to transfer. But let's not treat Buggs like an afterthought.
