I can't even believe this conversation.
Look at the level of competition that Camby class played against, and how they did. If we could land another Dana Dingle, Donta Bright, or Lou Roe this team with these young guys will make a big mark on the program, and could go down as one of those best classes in time. I'll take this class over that DK class
Here's the schedule from 1995-1996. Look at the OOC teams we played, including some games in the middle of the A10 part of the year. Nobody in the NCAA these days comes close to that schedule. It's a testament to just how good that team was.

Unreal schedule...Nobody has this day and age that was unreal!! Yet the A10 gave them the most problems- a testament to how good the league was!
I believe that was Anyone, Anywhere, Any time.
You know, just like UConn:
Anyone (if your sagarin rating was 200+) Anywhere (in Hartford or Storrs), Any time (they felt like it)

This is as good a place as any to mention this...
The wives of DK and Dan Hurley put a video podcast together, and for this one they had Derek and Dan with them. Some good stories. Check it out if you have some time.

DK had a nice record against Hurley's URI teams. 8-4, although, as is typical with DK's teams, they started out hot and then faded. He won the first 6, then finished 2-4.
That pretty much sums up his Umass (coaching career)

Saw DK in Manhattan recently - was on a bike ride and saw him last second and gave a quick YO DK! UMASS BABY and he smiled and nodded. The guy doesn't age, and the gel in his hair is stronger than ever!

Same amount of gel for less hair.
All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

LIU played at Fordham tonight and lost 73-57, to fall to 1-7 on the season. Ouch.
But looking at their schedule, Kellogg signed up to play a shitload of road games. They've played 1 home game so far, and only have 2 more before their conference play starts.

gotta pay the bills mike and that means barnstorming from November to conference play... He lost Smoke to Tony at CMU, good for smoke, but better yet, good for Matthew Vogel who finally after 15 years moved from the DOB chair to the assistant chair. MAZEL TOV MATT. I know you still read this board as a proud alum...

Well DK was a true Minuteman that left me a lot of amazing basketball memories in his career as a player. Coaching is a tough gig, tip of the hat to the DK he’s given it a good run and his legacy at UMass will always be the point guard from Springfield that got the most out of his talents. Good on him.

CBS Sports CBB
@CBSSportsCBB
LIU is firing Derek Kellogg and replacing him with G-League Ignite director Rod Strickland, sources have told
@247Sports
A very odd time of the year to fire a coach.

+1 to that.
Barring some sort of big violation, which I'd be surprised at, why on earth would you do this on June 29 and not mid/late March? LIU has been done since March 5.
DK went 74-74 overall / 49-41 in the NEC in his five years at LIU. Never finished sub-.500 in conference. Won the NEC Tourney in his first year, finished in 3rd this past season.

Feel bad for his assistant coaches. They aren’t finding jobs in July for next season. Hopefully their contract were guaranteed but my guess is they were guaranteed on July 1.
Dk will be fine this blows for his assistants.

Very weird timing but Rod Strickland is a hell of a hire. DK will find a job as an assistant coach somewhere.
