ESPN’s Jeff Goodman reported Kellogg will get a five-year deal. While no contract details have been announced, whatever Kellogg’s salary is over the first two seasons at LIU will be deducted from the $1.16 million buyout UMass was expected to pay him.

The two happiest people at UMass about this are Bamford and Andrew Mangels.

Best of luck to DK.

I noticed this as well... stopped short of setting any unrealistic expectations for their program (i.e. national level), but that's probably best on his part. Wishing him and the program lots of luck to though! He should do well at that level!

I have no idea how offset language works but why wouldn't LIU give DK a token $1 salary the first two years and then backload it into the last three. LIU can then pay DK more without spending more and the net is the same in the first two years for DK and higher in years 3-5 than it would have been.

You can't take too much time off and stay relevant.. plus a northeast job keeps him close to home.

The contract is most likely backloaded to a) make Umass pay more the first 2 year's and b) in case he were to leave for a higher profile job after 2-3 year's he wouldn't see the bigger payout in years 4 and 5.

If whoever from UMass' side wrote the contract was not stupid, they probably put wording into the contract that prevented this sort of thing. It probably has language that incorporates the average value of the contract over the full duration (in this case a 5-yr contract).

He was possibly influenced by Bru being out a full year and not getting a head coach position.

On a different subject, I really disagree with guys who are posting - concerning Lewis and Baldwin and Flowers and Clark - that dropping down to a lesser league would advance their chance at playing professionally. I just don't get it. Would you willingly take a lateral position with a lesser company as a career advancement move?

LIU release, with quotes from Calipari and Vinny Del Negro. The first was a given, but other than being Springfield natives, does Kellogg and Del Negro have anything else in common??

DK's wife posted a picture on Instagram from the final four this year of DK, Vinny and max together. So there might be a connection of some sort.

He's never been the best behind the mike, which always made me wonder how he's been such a good recruiter. Not always the best with words.

Good luck to DK but that place looks like a shit-show. A recent faculty lockout, the proposed elimination of core programs, the firing of the former coach coming off a 20 win season, an acceptance rate of over 80% with a grad rate of just over 30%... Might not have been a bad idea to sit out the year or look for an assistant gig rather than jump in there.
