Re: 2017-2018 Season
It's definitely going be a different experience for the guys in practice, and getting used to Kelsey's system will take some time. The non-conference schedule is going be tough. We're seeing what Frank Martin is doing with South Carolina. Alabama has the 6th ranked recruiting class coming in. Providence and Harvard will both be good again. Georgia and BYU won't be cake walks. Fortunately the rules in the NCAA allows coaches to work and practice with the guys a lot more than they used to prior to October.
By the time conference play comes around the guys should be grasping the system better and I could see us being a top 6 team. It was a down year this season in the A10, some of the top teams are losing seniors, and only VCU has a top 25 class coming in (that's if they all still come). This probably should be an NIT team, and an NCAA team in years 2 and 3 (junior and senior years for this strong class of 2020). What I do believe is that Kelsey will have a team that's capable of going on a run in DC and winning the auto-bid.

Re: 2017-2018 Season
I said 22 because I believed this could have been an 18 win team this past year. Adding 4 wins to a team that doesn't lose anyone on paper isn't a stretch. I guess the only thing that changes is the non con should be tougher.. so maybe that knocks the win total back down. It's still a NIT team year one. Also for the first time in a long time the team might actually be better at the end of the Than it is in the beginning.
Re: 2017-2018 Season
Before the 2016-17 season started I thought 2017-18 would be an NCAA year. Depending on who leaves and who's added, I think they still have a shot at it.

Re: 2017-2018 Season
Does anyone have any insight into how DK formed the non con schedule? Just seemed like there was never a push to play top 50 or even top 75 teams outside of Providence. It would be interesting to see if we would be able to schedule some teams that helped boost RPI numbers and not rely on the A10 part of the schedule for RPI boosting wins.

Re: 2017-2018 Season
I think a 20+ win season is completely reasonable if everyone stays. If we lose 3 or 4 we will dip but still a winning season. No matter how you look at it this won't be a total rebuild. We have a lot of talent that has already sat a year and won't transfer.
I don't think it was DK not trying to get good games in OOC, I think teams didn't want to play us and injure their rpi. New era coming and hopefully if Kelsey proves to be the man, Bamford will be ready with a fat contract. There is literally no reason we can't offer a 2million salary if we are selling out mullins.

Looking forward to winning seasons again!

How many practices for either coach have you actually attended that gives you the believable authority to make that statement? Have you spent much time attending Winthrop and/or UMass practices?Refuse2Lose83 wrote:It's definitely going be a different experience for the guys in practice, and getting used to Kelsey's system will take some time.
Re: 2017-2018 Season
^if they get a jump this spring/summer during authorized training sessions, workouts etc...they should hit the ground running in October. That will probably need to consist of the guys taking some extra time with leadership on the team to sort things out themselves because of practice restrictions. Changeovers happen frequently....im not concerned. PK seems like he will be direct and articulate when implementing his system/philosophy.

I asked someone I know who works at the Mullins Center and there is no actually US postal address. Any deliveries go though the Mullins Center though the load-in area in the back during business hours.

Re: 2017-2018 Season
Personally, I would like everyone to return and see what Pat can do with this roster. Realistically it probably won't happen and it's a guessing game as who stays and who goes. According to VerbalCommits.com 167 players have asked for transfers and 23 of them are eligible to play next year (no UMass players on the list). It's early in the process and there will be many more. Thus, we have an opportunity to plug a couple of holes for a year if players leave and Pat has time to recruit for the following season where we'll have a bunch of spots open.

I followed Coach Kelsey in the Charlotte area.. Winthorp is a state u in SC and it not well known outside the area. For a coach to do well there he has to be great coach and a huge recruiter to get the results. Over all a great hire for UMass.

Virginia PF, and Massachusetts native, Jarred Reuter is transferring. Maybe this can be Kelsey's first pick-up?
