Fire DK? (End of 2016-17 poll)

Post by MikeUMA » Thu Mar 09, 2017 4:36 pm

Last horn has sounded, season is done, and we know pretty much all we're gonna know at this point.

Share your opinion. You've probably shared it before, but now all the numbers are in the books.

I'm gonna fragment the poll options one a bit, between what you want to happen versus what you think will actually happen, before the start of next season.

He should be gone, but I think he returns next year. Because that's how we roll.
Raise the bar, do the minimum.

Is he fired yet, is he fired yet.....? Keeping him on will further doom this program.

He should be gone, but he will come back because the school fears John Kennedy. In terms of the recruiting class, this allegedly was one of the 25 best classes in the country, yet not one player made the A10 all-rookie team. If that is not a clear indication of a failing coach, I don't know what is. It pisses me off that him coming back is even under consideration. As someone already posted though, this is how we roll. The school has pretty much become irrelevant in all major sports, so what does it matter?

No question he should be fired, should have been fired after the 30 point blowout against Duquesne. FR to SOPH jump or not it's not going to be a substantial boost to get this team close to the NIT let alone the NCAAs with the current "system", instead of of 4-14 we'll be 6-12. Kellogg needs to go, he has shown he: 1. Cannot keep a consistent rotation where the players know their role from game to game 2. Adapt his offense to suit his players, why are we top 30 in the nation in 3pt attempts when we're one of the worst teams in the nation in 3pt % 3. Make any type of adjustment when another coach throws something different at us.

He basically can do nothing a D1 coach can do aside from recruit. Not to mention the epic 2nd half nose dive every year and that fact that practically every player who has come thru here has not made any real tangible growth as a player. I hope he is gone tomorrow but for some reason my gut feeling is Bamford doesn't have the gall to axe him and will bring him back under the guise of "we're young and need to develop and get experience". Hope I'm wrong

Kennedy is a jackass who wants to bask in the 90's glory days, he clearly doesn't care about the actual program if he really thinks Kellogg is the solution for the dumpster fire that UMass basketball has become

There's a possibility that Bamford comes to DK and basically says "Bring in a legitimate X's and O's guy and if you don't get us to the tourney next year, you're gone." And the truth is, I don't see this team making that kind of jump in one year. I think Clark is gone. I think Berger is gone. So CJ would be your only senior. We'd probably bring in a grad transfer or two, be slightly improved, MAYBE get 10 conference wins and end up in the NIT. Then DK would say "how can you dump me now when I have Holloway, Hines and all the freshman coming back next year for what should surely be an NCAA team?"

You can't bring DK back unless you are OK giving him until these freshman graduate. If you bring him back and he doesn't have a terrific season and you can him, then what? Cause here's the truth: it's tough to can a guy at UMass after an NIT appearance. And if you make the NIT next year and the year after and then the tourney when these kids are seniors, you will have given DK 12 years to get back to the tourney and then you KNOW he gets another 3 shitty rebuilding years. DK has basically built the program to be shitty for three years, respectable for two, good for one. Rinse and repeat. And that's best case scenario. If he fails to get back to the dance in year 12, this program would be forced to start over and they'd be digging out from a way bigger hole than if you cut your losses now.

I actually think this is pretty understated too. Outside of Jarreau, the numbers were quite unremarkable (or just plain bad depending on your mood) on a horrific team. If one of the main reasons he would come back is because of this class, that's an incredibly weak reason. I don't think it's crazy to say the jury is largely still out on the class.

^ under your 12 year scenario you can be sure his fans would then say, "how can you fire a guy who got us back to the NCAA for the first time in 6 years?!"

Interesting early returns so far. Most everybody wants a change, but split votes on whether he'll actually be retained or not.
