It's only obvious to 95 percent of us! Hate to say it but not sure many fans will pay to see Umass next year with Kellogg on board. Probably less than 2000 fans a game.

It would be very cool if they announced Kellogg's departure and the new coach at the same time

Usual AD speak.. wait until the end of the year and evaluate.. but once again nothing confirming his job is safe.. I think he is 100% gone unless we make the A-10 finals

^Interesting that even at over $1 million/year, DK is not in the top 80 in overall compensation for D-1 coaches - and that's with many schools not reporting what they pay their coach. It seems like most here feel that UMass should be a top 40-50 program based on facilities/academics etc. If we are ever going to be a top 40 program, the school needs to step up and pay for a top coach.

^^ most coaches have TONS of ability to make more based on attendance and performance.. part of the reason he is not top whatever is due to the fact that he has not hit any of the marks to hit the extra bonuses

Plus compared it to other A-10 schools.. DK is near the top

Why because of his contract or because he's the hometown guy? Either way he should be gone at seasons end or Bamford should be gone. It's pretty obvious he needs to fire him
#1 - He is a hometown guy.
#2 - His contract
#3 - His top 25 recruiting class
#4 - He has the support of people influential to the program (Calipari...)

I really don't think he will be fired. I think he will be given next season to sink or swim.

I like DK as a person. I don't like his coaching style. I thought it was a mistake to hire someone without head coaching experience after Ford left. I didn't think Umass had to take a risk like that, even if it was for a home town guy. They did, and it hasn't worked out. Still, I think he gets one more year.

My conjecture is that I think his hometown/alumni status and support from people like Calipari helped him get the job and keep the job after his first three bad years. But I don't think that's going to save him after the last three bad years. New AD and new president (new chancellor?). The recruiting class gave him this year and would've given him next year if he got the team to show even a smidgen of improvement throughout the season and hope for next. The contract has been addressed many times, it's likely only in the $600k range to buy him out, that's manageable.

wow, it seems like DK might be safe..... Wtf is Bamford smoking?? I mean that or he just isn't gonna say anything else. Seriously though, I definitely will walk away from my season tickets.

^^ I understand that article MUCH differently.. I took his quotes that DK is almost guaranteed to be gone unless a miracle happens.

Wish I could find a job that would pay me a mill/yr and allow me to have average/below average results for 9 yrs and still feel comfortable.

I read the interview with the AD as it is premature to discuss by 1 month, not 1 year. If you get a job performance that starts with "working hard" it's going to be followed by a "but..."

I agree with this, I think he'll be back next season as a make or break season. I just hope Saturday they start off fast, if the fall behind big early on it could get ugly and his father is at every home game as are his kids so hopefully they won't have to hear too much from masses.

DK is not getting fired this year. But he has to make the tourney next year to save his job moving forward.

Its the truth.

Well they make a significant percentage of the total fanbase so if they cheer loud enough it should drown out any boos.
