Deeky needs better clock awareness.

Good first half, i didn't have a good feeling going into this one, but if we can hold on, I'd say our non conference was a pleasant suprise.

I am surprised how well we are doing considering the reputation Georgia State came in with. Lets just play them at least even in the second half.

Trailing 17-10 I didn't see that 18-0 run coming. First half very similar to the Ole Miss game.

I think we'll be okay if we don't turn it over.

^^
10 turnovers, and many were just dumb unnecessary passes.

31% shooting on 3s and 78% on FTs is good enough to win, particularly if they don't turn it over 10 times again. Good and bad on display from CJ, Deeky and Donte, but I expect more from the latter 2, given their great potential.

These announcers are embarrassing. Just referred to CJ as "the big man" and Zach Lewis as "Donte Clark".

And they said next year Georgia St will play at Amherst in the Champions Center.

LS71 wrote:UMass is at its best when they play its brand of ball-hawking pressure D that utilizes the rim protection of Holloway/Hines/Gresham/Baldwin et al. It leads to easy hoops in transition and raises their energy and confidence levels to 11.

They score in bunches and rattle the other team.

The more of that we see on Wednesday, the better the chance for a W.
I can't get the stream at work but I saw this on ESPN's Gamescast: Minutemen getting out in front on transition plays & turning them into points!!

I like most of what I see in the box: UMass is out shooting them from the floor (44.4%-36%) and the line (78%-50%) and out rebounding them at both ends of the floor (5+16=21 vs. 3 +10=13) . That said they have more steals (4-7) and blocks (1-5) and fewer turnovers (7-10).

Some lazy passes and we were slow on the attack, which led to some shot clock issues. GS did nice job mixing up a standard 1-3-1 with a more aggressive trapping zone, and Deeky was a little confused a couple times. Overall I thought we did well to take what they gave us.

When we defend like we did from about 12:00 - 3:00, we are tough.

the announcers are just another example of why we don't want to be in the Sun Belt conference

Holloway a big defensive presence here early in 2nd. As many have said, he will be a monster with another strong offseason of conditioning. Scary what he and Gresham could be on that end.

I don't know if it's the same guy each time, but they have some guys with arc on their shots that would make Putney proud.
