An interesting tweet from A10talk.com. Have they seen us play?
A10Talk.com @A10Talk
39% of Richmond's FGAs this season have been from 3 despite UofR ranking 300th nationally in 3p%. Gotta take less of those.
44% of our FGAs this season have been from 3 and we shoot them at .301. Richmond is slightly better than us at .305 so we might be in the mid 300's.

Pipkins has taken 42 more 3 point shots than Clark, and made 8 more. That might be where the problem is, and that is on the coach to rein him in.

When you look at the numbers, only Donte and Flowers should be taking 3s. Nobody else who has taken more than 16 for the year is above 29%.

^ Or Anderson. Of course Anderson doesn't really take a 3 unless he's wide open, which is probably what everyone other than Flowers & Clark should be doing.

We won't win any games on our 3pt shooting or our half-court offense, so they have to focus on being the best team they can in the other areas, like defense, rebounding, turnovers and take advantage of transition opportunities (which they're already doing).

The starting 5 they've been using for pretty much the whole season has only 1 player I'm with taking a 3 if there's a defender within 10 feet... Clark. Adding Flowers and Gresham to the lineup gives you a 2nd legitimate 3pt threat, improves your rebounding, rim protection and gives you someone that can finish at the rim on alley-oops and dump offs. You give up a more versatile defender and your best on-ball defender/pick-pocket, but I think the trade-off might be worth it. At the very least Flowers should be moved into the starting lineup for Berger and leave the rest of the lineup as is.

I'm starting to wonder if Jarreau & Holloway shouldn't be in the same lineups together. They both do their best work in the paint and to some degree get in each other's way. Jarreau is better paired with Gresham and/or Baldwin.

Another lineup option would be to surround Holloway with the best 3pt shooters you have, which is probably Flowers, Clark, Lewis and Pipkins.

And hit 90% of them too. They always drain their FT's against Umass and are generally a good FT shooting team all around.

I know it isn't a popular opinion, but I'd add Lewis. I know most on here aren't big fans, but Umass needs him to hit some 3's to help this team, otherwise there's no point in him being on the floor.

^ Lewis is a good defender, but for the most part I agree, which is why I don't think Lewis should get significant minutes until he can get some consistency with his shot.

Lewis' struggles are something that totally baffle me. The guy shot 38.9% from 3 as a freshman, 31.5% as a sophomore, and now 29.2% as a redshirt junior, playing a complementary role taking mostly open 3's. I was hoping for close to 40% from him this year, maybe 35% at worst.

^ I agree re: Flowers and Clark getting most the shots. And, DK needs to figure out how to get those guys open looks. Granted, I've only seen Flowers play extended minutes in 2 games, but he seems like a catch and shoot guy where as Clark can score off the dribble (or catch and shoot). Lewis seems to have a good shot, but they (3's) are not falling.

Getting his team to score more points than an opponent is DK's problem. For the sake of the players, fans, and the schools, I hope he can solve it.

He is, and they are getting open looks. Clark doesn't seem to look for the catch & shoot very often, he typically uses screens just to get open to receive a pass and then tries to attack the rim.

I agree. I'm guessing that 80%-90% of the threes taken have been open looks. Every once in a while Donte forces one and LP forces the most of anyone, but I'll bet 70% of his are open. Almost all of Lewis and Flowers shots are open. We are just not making them like we should.

^ With Flowers and Clark, I actually wonder if they're not taking enough 3's. At times they both seem hesitant to catch & shoot when they catch a pass on the perimeter are are open, it's like they're not even looking to take the shot right away most of the time, or in the case of Clark he wants to always attack the rim. In some ways that's a good thing, but in this case I think maybe those two should be taking more. Neither has taken more than 5 3's in any of the last 5 games. Whereas Pipkins has taken more than 5 3's in three out of the last 5 games. I'd prefer to see Clark & Flowers take more shots and Pipkins take less.
