One of the few who transferred "UP" (in terms of conference) from UMass in recent memory. (Berger, Jarreau, Gresham, Gordon) are the others who transferred UP that come to mind.

Only grad transfer that will likely play a key role after moving up as well. The NOLA guys as regular transfers moving up are the only ones in that boat IIRC?

Cooley is a great guy and a good recruiter. Not sure how good a coach he is, but it's a good spot for Pip and I wish him nothing but the best. He went through a difficult time at UMass.

Will be interesting to see what he does when he doesn’t have to do so much (or feel like he has to do so much) — I think a change of scenery is probably best for all involved.

After thinking about it more, it doesn't surprise me that Pip didn't go closer to home. We all thought DePaul, Illinois or Loyola-Chicago were possibilities, but we all remember the discussions when Pip came in to the program. About how he was from a rough area and one of his close friends was shot and killed either right before or right as he was committing to Umass. Maybe staying away is best for him still. Providence is a step above and he should get plenty of PT there as well. But as some of you have said, it will hurt seeing him so close to Umass but not with Umass. But it is what it is. Good for him. Time to move on.

No, not for the foreseeable future. We just ended a four-game series with them.

That's good. I wish Pip the best in every respect but I really really don't want to ever watch him play against us.

I hope Pip tears it up with Providence and goes out on a high note with an NCAA appearance. Great player, just a lost season unfortunately this year, I have to believe he was bothered by some injuries (even before the hamstring) the way he was shooting. I've never seen such a regression from one year to the next, but I never felt like he wasn't giving his heart and soul for UMass.

Agreed, he played hard for us. No complaints there. As far as his shooting regression, I could see from the first game of the season that he lost the arc in his shot. It became flat again, as it was his freshman year. Then at the very end of the season when he game back for a game, the arc was back. I was really hoping to see some big scoring from him after that, but unfortunately, he never saw the court again as a Minuteman.

Talked to a PC STH at work... He's excited about getting Pip and not too sad to see MAL leaving. Said Ashton-Langford just didn't really fit in and that PC badly needs a deep threat.

Good luck in the deep threat dept. Depends on which Pipkins shows up.

^ That's what I told him. He said PC fans only saw the Pip that torched them twice - specifically referenced 2 years ago in Amherst. I live close to providence and have always kind of been a half-assed PC "fan" so it will be weird to see him there next year.

^ I'm with MJ here. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, right? Plus one of my best friends went to Providence and I went to a few games while he was there. One being against Uconn in 2006 and the whole crowd was cheering "Where's my laptop?" to Marcus Williams.
