^ I understood the original question to be more general. The answer is that other schools have had players deemed ineligible by the NCAA clearinghouse in the last couple of years. I'm not aware of a quick and easy way to determine which schools and which players this entails. UMass might very well be on the high side with 3 over two years, but many other schools have had at least 1 in the last two years.

There are probably a lot this year that aren't going to be eligible that haven't been made public yet so there's no way to know. That being said, in just the A10 I believe VCU has a player this year, a player two years ago and two players three years ago that were ruled ineligible. Dayton had a player last year, URI has one this year (he then decommited), SJU had one last year, GMU had one last year.

As someone else pointed out, a lot of the guys that don't qualify go the JUCO route because not all schools will accept non-qualifiers. My guess is that DK knew that it was at least a possibility that Hines, Holloway and Pipkins would be ineligible before they committed to UMass.

I was just checking to see if anyone would call me on it. I agree, there are probably few.

^ I wish I lived in the fantasy world Gary Parrish lives in. Ya, because that's what universities do with their athletes. They make sure they are qualified. Talk to UNC about that. We need to decide, as a culture, what college athletics are about. Is it making money? Is it being the minor leagues? Why do we have college athletics?

I cleaned up the link for UncleDov. Nice idea but the NCAA would never give up this kind of authority.

I'm sure other programs have clearinghouse problems, but I was wondering if anyone knew of any that have had problems like we have the last 2 years. I don't follow other programs like I do UMass so I can't think of any guys off the top of my head who have had to sit out because the clearinghouse hasn't ruled on them.

St. John's recruit not cleared. Also a Chicago kid who played against LP last year. Chris Mullin not very happy with NCAA.

Why wouldn't he be? The NCAA decision might end up costing him hundreds of thousands of dollars. Maybe millions. And people think the problem is with the Clearinghouse? Really?????

Nor should we want them to.. We get a lot of guys through this process. UMass is a great school and it is a huge advantage being able to take on non or partial qualifiers that see the opportunity to play for a decent college program while going to a (depending on major) potentially great academic program.

It sucks for kids like LP who may have done everything they thought they needed to do in order to be eligible. We don't know why he is ineligible. Was his summer workload done because he got bad grades in the courses he took during the year or was it because his school doesn't do a good job preparing their students for college and making sure they take all of the necessary accredited coursework to be deemed eligible. Speculate away but none of us actually know.

If he gets to practice with the team second semester, that will be a HUGE boost for 2016-2017. I like the regulation in the sense that it should really give any player in his situation incentive to make the grades. C'mon, LuWane, hit those books!

This quote is from a Barstool blogger who usually does his homework, but I haven't verified it. It just shows we are not alone and the BIG schools can get hit too. (if accurate)

"I like what Bill Self did on the recruiting front getting LG Vick, Carlton Bragg and Cheick Diallo – who is still waiting clearance from the NCAA. Just a reminder, go fuck yourself Mark Emmert and the NCAA. " -Reags
