Per Matty V, Smith is a possibility for this year due to FIU being ineligible for postseason play.....we could use this guy to make our run next year.

^ Wait, what? Did I miss something?

P.S. ok, I see the Matty V article now and he mentioned Malik Smith at the bottom. This is exactly what we need for next year, it would be perfect and would make me feel a whole lot better about our prospects. What I don't understand from Matty V is why Smith's credits being transferrable (or not) is of any relevance. He'd be eligible to play next year because FIU is on sanctions.

In 33 minutes per game he averaged 14 points. 80% of his field goal attempts came from 3 point land. Wow! He also averaged almost 3 rebounds per game and 1 assist.

You look at those numbers and immediately think Freddie Riley!

Then you see that he made 36% of those 3-point attempts and that Freddie made 37% of his last year and you really say, this guy is Freddie Riley!!!

The one difference. Foul shooting.

Smith averaged almost 4 FTA per game and hit 77% of them.

As far as defense, I have no idea how they'd compare. Smith would be a nice shooter off the bench to have next year for depth and instant offense.

You can get a good sense for what kind of player he is in this game. Good highlight package from FIU. He's #24.

This is a game where he hit like 6 three's. Nice rhythm and release to his shot. More of a spot up shooter than someone who can create offense- much like Freddie.

Also saw him get torched in just about every opposing team player highlights, plays upright on defense, wasn't seen attempting to box out, was late fighting through picks about 4 times and his man scored.

Overall, he looks Freddie Riley's offense from his senior year combined with Freddie Riley's defense from his junior year.

I'd rather get a talented freshman like Demetrius Dyson, but Smith will do for a much needed depth guy that can provide scoring next year.

Smith averaged 5 more minutes, 3 more shots, and 3 more free throws attempted and made than Freddie last year. That's your difference. If your post was to say that Smith is a more efficient and productive scorer, I'd disagree, Freddie's shooting from the field was more efficient. If your post was to highlight that Smith got more minutes and made more free throws, then yes, that's true. But I already noted the latter above.

^^To tell you the truth, I'm a little confused by your tactics, so I'm going to keep acting tough, until I figure it out, alright?

Do think that UMass would admit as a senior a guy with two years at a juco and one year at FIU? Maybe yes, maybe not.

Here's an old NERR page for Malik. His rep. was as a prolific scorer. We kind of need a 1 year rental scorer for next year and then get a couple of good recruits for 2014.

Exactly. Sounds like the boy and girl are ready to hook up but the parents could be in the way.
