How has this thread been dormant since April?
Anyway, great piece from Matty V on Brantley adjusting to a harsh new reality.

And a companion piece on an effort to get EKG's at more schools:

Quote from his mother: “The NCAA is making billions of dollars off these kids. They can’t give them one test? One test that could save their lives and reshape their futures?”
So true, and unfortunately because they're crooks it'll never happen. I hope that we don't see another Hank Gathers or Reggie Lewis situation happen ever again.

Re: KAEO: Jaylen Brantley
Another quote from the article, this from Jaylen's Mom.
“I feel like UMass has saved his life. I know people personally who have lost their children to this disease. I still have the opportunity to hug my son and I have UMass to thank for that,” she said.
It must be really hard to give up what has been a passion but this is where all the focus needs to be - on the positive aspects, like being alive. Kudos to coach for his attitude and help.

Nice article from MassLive on the relationship between Brantley, Baldwin and Franklin, all Springfield guys.

Re: KAEO: Jaylen Brantley
Was just about to post this; nice article which indicates Jaylen is apparently handling the situation maturely, with a positive eye on the future. Best of luck.
All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

Re: KAEO: Jaylen Brantley
Of course this can happen to anyone unexpectedly, but it just re-affirms the fact that Umass and Brantley made the right decision. It's awful for Brantley as I'm sure it was real painful not being able to help the team last season, but you just absolutely cannot take that chance.

Re: KAEO: Jaylen Brantley
Was Jaylen still with the team in the second half of the season? Didn't see him at many games, if at all.
Re: KAEO: Jaylen Brantley
^ I was wondering that myself.
