Re: KAEO: Jaylen Brantley
I think our team will perform better next year with a guy like Brantley than we would have with Deeky. We won't have as many highlight plays, just strong controlled possessions every time down the floor.
On paper he actually reminds me of....drum roll... DK. Steady but not spectacular athlete. Takes care of the ball. Leader. Good but not volume 3 point shooter. Low turnover distributor.
Can't wait for next season already.

Matty V wrote:Things fell into place for him with UMass, where a new coaching staff and a handful of transfers opened up a scholarship and playing time.
“It’s all perfect to be honest. Everything happens for a reason. I think this is a good situation for me with a new coaching staff,” Brantley said. “I’m excited to go back home and play in front of my family and friends for my last year. The coaching staff really laid out how I would play. I liked it. It’s like everything coming full circle going home in my last year. Hopefully it can be a great one.”
He’s hoping his experience and leadership on the court can be an asset with his new team.
“I just want to make everybody better and get everyone involved and try to help UMass get back on the map for the years to come,” he said. “I have a lot of experience. I’ve been to the tournament and I’ve played in big games. I’ll be a fifth year. I’ll probably be the oldest.”
He said he hoped to pass along what he learned from Trimble to his younger teammates.
“I’ve been waiting for this moment for a while,” he said. “Playing behind him, he taught me a lot. I’m just eager to teach the next person everything he’s taught me.”

I think his approach here is terrific.
All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

We'll see. The words are what we want to hear. Hopefully, he'll be given a chance to run the team and be successful. In addition maybe, just maybe, he and Pipkins (who also may want a chance to start at point guard) will bond, and form a great 1, 2 punch at point next season. Matt McCall has his work cut out.

Based on current roster Pip and Brantley may just start together.

Re: KAEO: Jaylen Brantley
^i can only assume that is the plan. Brantley at the point and Pipkins as the off guard. Pipkins and Anderson can both play the point when Brantley needs a breather or in the case of foul trouble.
Re: KAEO: Jaylen Brantley
Right - I can't imagine Pip not starting with the roster as it currently sits (assuming no Flowers and Clark).
Re: KAEO: Jaylen Brantley
FWIW Pip just posted an Instagram picture saying "miss my guys" and tagged Clark in it along with Jarreau, Lewis, Coleman and Turcotte, so I'm guessing Clark won't be back next yearMJatUM wrote:Right - I can't imagine Pip not starting with the roster as it currently sits (assuming no Flowers and Clark).

Gresham?
Thought Turcotte was a grad student that could still be a walkon, no?

Wait, what? Did I miss something? Did Tyrn announce he's transferring? I figured he'd be a good fit as a 3 point shooter in McCall's system.MJatUM wrote:Right - I can't imagine Pip not starting with the roster as it currently sits (assuming no Flowers and Clark).
Staying on topic, I'm thrilled to have Brantley here, even as a 1-yr player. He seems mature, obviously wants to be close to home, and it will be nice to watch smart, low turnover basketball.

Re: KAEO: Jaylen Brantley
That's a shame, he could be a real matchup problem for teams. Where is this information coming from?
Re: KAEO: Jaylen Brantley
I don't believe Tyrn has a (public) Twitter account.69MG wrote:^ Not Flowers??
