He also said that he was at the Kentucky game last night and that Umass and Kentucky are very similar?  both are young and can play reckless at times. Yup, like two peas in a pod.

He made good points about not letting offensive inconsistency impact defense. Play good D without fouling.

If Bru thought we played good defense tonight and are similar to Kentucky let's keep him away from the sidelines.

Was able to listen to most of the first half... refreshing to hear Bruiser. He's funny, can be brutally honest at times, and still has some glasses that are slightly maroon tinted.

One comment Bruiser made towards the end of the game as Clark was heading for the free throw line, "Okay, try to make these free throws." Made me laugh.

At the risk of polluting another thread with how DK sucks as a coach, I got to thinking about how Bruiser had some good success in the A-10, while conference play has plagued DK. Yeah, Bru had some talent carryover from the Cal years, but still...

Bruiser
Cumulative A-10 record: 52-28
A-10 Tourney (5 of them)
- Never lost the first game
- Cumulative record: 7-5
- Reached the Semis twice (both after the Padilla/Travieso/Ketner years)
- Reached the Final once

Kellogg
Cumulative A-10 record: 65-77 (at present, 8.5 seasons)
A-10 Tourney (8 of them)
- Lost the first game 3 times
- Cumulative record: 7-8
- Reached the Semis twice
- Never reached the Final

Bruiser was definitely the victim of coming right after Cal when we still thought we should be in the final four every year. At this point I think most of us would be thrilled with that kind of 'failure.'

Those teams with Monty Mack and Lari were a lot of fun to watch though.

I would gladly saw off my left pinky toe in exchange for another Monty Mack on the Minutemen...

Those teams were not that fun to watch, unless you are a fan of grind ‘em out defensive struggles, but they were competitive. Monty had to run off 4 to a million screens every offensive possession.

I enjoyed it. Of course I was 20, and we were winning. Ketner went off for 30+ at least once and that was fun. Much more fun than anything the last couple years that's for damn sure.

Bruiser Flint
Jim Crews

Guys that followed AMAZING A10 coaches and were heralded on good seasons the 1st or second year (while they played their predecessor's guys) and ultimately stunk it up and got fired. I think there is a small chance that Will Wade (VCU) will be afflicted by this also as this is only his 2nd year post-Shaka and time will tell in the next 1-2 years when its his guys through the system. A team that loses a solid class can go from great to crap overnight.

A good buddy of mine played for Jim crews at West Point. He had all sorts of crazy rules like o shooting off the dribble, non3's unless feet were set, 3 passes per possession etc.... he is exactly what umass needs right now!

What a novel concept.
