Great win. I gotta say, I typically don’t condone shit talking, I kind of liked the dust up at the end of the game.

Guys gutted it out without their fastball. Feels good

Kudos to Matt for a well coached game. Drew up a nice play at the end of regulation. Got the options they wanted. Improvement

Not much to add. Considering how undermanned we were, I'll take the win no matter how ugly. I never thought I would say this: Dibaji's defense was one of the keys to the game. Ronnie is quickly becoming one of my favorite players on this team. He's smart, efficient and does a lot of the little things.

That's it for now. I hope they replay it on NESN+. I'll stay up for it.

I’m a little nervous we’re going to be this undermanned for the rest of the year

This is a game we would have lost in the past. I like the growth I'm seeing.

What's all this talk about being undermanned? We had 9 players in the game, and 7 getting double-digit minutes. I think a 7-8 man rotation is sort of where things should be. Preston has been out all year, and we lost Dominguez, who doesn't look comfortable at all out there, and Cairo. Not having Cairo out there was unfortunate, but they still had all their big guns and plenty of rotational guys.

I'll give McCall credit for the second straight game. They played good defense for the first 30ish minutes and had a good game plan to stop Fatts. Things fell apart toward the end when Tre had to leave the game, but they gutted it out and played tough ball. To win a rivalry game like this with Tre limited due to foul trouble and atrocious 3-pt shooting is a good sign.

I didn't know much about Fatts Russell's game, but it sounded like he was a volume scorer, not an efficient one. Maybe it was our defense, but I don't know, I wasn't impressed. He puts up a lot of wild shots praying for the foul call and doesn't seem to have a solid outside shot. Yesterday was only a snapshot of course, but he was only 3-13 FG and a lot of those were ugly attempts.

On to Fordham!

^ Yes, we played 9 guys but Kolton had 2 minutes and Mark had 5 minutes so it may as well have been 7 players. Glad they have a few days rest before Fordham on Sunday.

Russell is boom or bust, very frustrating for the URI fanbase :D :D :D :D :D .

Tre played 30 of 45 minutes, mostly due to foul trouble. The Collegian article says he had been averaging 36 per game prior to these last 2 (foul trouble URI and LaSalle blowout). I think we want Tre right around 30 a game. His fatigue was a big factor in the losses this season.

Gasperini was not good (although a little better than he has been) out there yesterday, but we need some minutes from him even if he doesn't score. I think MM needs to work him in 5-8 minutes every game with the hope he can get up to 10 per game by the time the season ends. If MM determines he can't fill that back-up 5 role, he will need to get creative with small ball lineups.

I think the lineup with Dibaji and Degray as the 4-5, or even Cairo as a 4 needs to be worked on. I strongly believe we need to keep Tre under 32 minutes a game, save for those games where it's neck and neck the whole way and we need to push him to his limits.

We got hurt yesterday with Tre out of the lineup since their 6'11" guy had a career game, but Tre was fresh for the end of the game. He made 3 big time plays on key possessions down the stretch.

On to Fordham. This will be a good test to see if the team has learned it's lesson when it comes to playing down to their opponent, as seen in our 3 losses this year. A win at Fordham makes us 4-1, and hopefully that would be enough of a buffer to survive the tougher conference games down the stretch to finish above .500.

Someone around here predicted that DeGray looked like the best of the freshmen coming In. Oh, wait, it was me :D I had a lot of time on my hands in March and April due to the Covid shutdown, and watched all the game tape I could find on the newcomers. That said, DeGray really wanted to play for Colorado, where his dad was a star. That's the reason he didn't accept our first offer and stayed at Woodstock another year. If he continues to have a great freshman year.... Just sayin'....

That was a really frustrating way to win, but I'll take it! Loved the way URI didn't tie it up at the buzzer too... that's gotta be right up there next to the Matt Glass pick for them.

I'd like to see DW use his length to take mid-range shots rather than constantly jack up 3s. He did that last year in flashes and looked good doing it... I think that's where his offensive strength lies.

Now we see if coaching adjustments come into play here. McCall has to speak to them about not settling on 3s with big leads... work the clock and get good shots, ideally inside. You might get back doing the 3 thing against bad teams, but good ones like URI will sneak back in and they have to learn that.

There are going to be games where the team
Is collectively hot from 3 and they win in runaway fashion and then there are going to be games like last night. 6-30 from 3 while being outrebounded by 10 with your best player in foul trouble usually means a loss, so I will take that. Difference was their ability to hit free throws and force turnovers. I was really impressed with the defense aside from the stretch late in the game where anyone on this board could have scored down low after two bounce passes. And aside from Noah basically going 1-2 a million times down the stretch against George Mason, their FT shooting has been a nice change of pace from previous years. 3-1 with Fordham up next is not a bad place to be.

Ronnie reminds me of Tyrone Weeks back in the day, except with a little more range. Kid is fun to watch, junkyard dog mentality.

Looking at the highlights this morning, and there were many really sweet assists. All the starters had impressive stats in rebounding and assists (in addition to double-digit scoring), except for Dibaji who had 4 blocks and influenced the game a lot on D. Garcia with a fantastic 6th man performance, and just enough from TJ and maybe even MG.
