Re: Game 28, 2023-24: at GW (2/27)

Nice win. Excellent first half. Very good games from Cross and Diggins particularly. Solid contributions all around. Not his best from Keon offensively, but defense and other elements were there. Davis is progressing. I think this win cements a bye in the tournament and first game against a team tha...

Re: Game 28, 2023-24: at GW (2/27)

hope this move to the MAC isn't a distraction, because here's another crucial game. GW lost 10 in a row since visiting Amherst where Bishop went cold and stayed that way for a few games. He's hot again now (>60% on 3s with 16 of his last 26) although not enough to beat SJU and SLU. But those 2 were ...

Re: First reaction: UMass to the MAC

The A10 has a presence in NYC, Washington DC, Chicago, St Louis and 2 teams in Philly. Premier bball programs in Dayton and VCU. I don't know much about the MAC, but they seem like a bunch of small-town midwest schools, mostly from Ohio. Unless the MAC expands, I don't see how this helps, except in ...

Re: Game 27, 2023-24: St. Bonaventure (2/24)

Watching the replay of that call and I'm not sure. That "Reggie Miller" move was outlawed and they emphasized enforcement a few years ago, but was Curry's leg kick like that? It was to the side, not front, and didn't hinder the defender until well after the shot was away. It looked like th...

Talking NIL, Pitino, St. John's, and "donations to recruiting efforts" this may be of interest:

Re: Game 26, 2023-24: VCU (2/20)

crazy that they can beat first place Richmond by double digits on the road, then lose to last-place La Salle, then beat the hottest team in the A10 by 22 points. I thought perhaps UMass could pull it off if they could hit a lot of 3-point shots. Rahsool and Robert have had games where they hit 6 3-p...

Got his tooth busted vs Dayton and played in the next game (La Salle) until the ankle. Then was out for 3 games while both got better.

Re: A10 Standing/Seeding Changes Discussion

Finishing 8th is really the same as finishing 9th, so it's more about can you make 7th so your first tournament game is vs a team that played the day before. Although often the team finishing 9th is sweating dropping to 10th and playing the first night. SJU has 7 losses so far, but URI only 6 (same ...

Keon got 2 fouls early and sat. Team looks awful.

Re: Game 25, 2023-24: at LaSalle (2/17)

Rotten play from the first game was LaSalle player (Fasasi I think) hooking Matt Cross such that it looked like he'd yank Matt's shoulder out of its joint, but instead it led to an awkward landing and ankle injury. Sure looked like a foul and no call, adding insult to injury.

Re: Game 24, 2023-24: at Richmond (2/14)

definitely a WOW! win. When Robert hits 3s like that and Curry scores as he can, UMass can be tough to beat. Perhaps something contagious about that shooting, I mean how do they wind up with 88% on FTs? I think if you look up "determined" in the dictionary, you'll see a picture of Matt Cro...

Re: Game 24, 2023-24: at Richmond (2/14)

Surprised the spread is only 3.5, but this is an A10 where it might make sense. Then again, Richmond is 12-0 at home and UMass 1-5 on the road, with the only win being at SLU. How does that and the GMU, Bona and URI games since indicate UMass is going to perform well down there? All 3 A10 games toni...

Re: Game 24, 2023-24: at Richmond (2/14)

... Would be a massive confidence builder if we could get this one on Wednesday, and also a nudge closer to back to double-bye territory. As of today, we'd be a 6 seed. 5-8 get a single bye out of Tuesday, 1-4 get the double out of Tue & Wed. tweak to above: 5-9 get a single bye. If the tournam...

Re: Game 23, 2023-24: Rhode Island (2/11)

Seems like Davis is often in the game at the same time as Curry. Perhaps they've developed enough to not require as much experience on the court with them.

Re: Game 23, 2023-24: Rhode Island (2/11)

not pretty is understatement. many ugly moments. I don't get how with the dwindling lead down to 3 and less than 1 minute left, Rahsool calmly drills a long 3 that seems to stop the comeback and possibly seal the game. Then he misses the front end of two 1-and-1s in the final seconds. OK, 2-5 in clo...
