Re: 2024 Recruiting
1400? That's a staggering number. There are 362 D1 basketball teams x 13 scholarship spots = 4,706 total scholarships available in D1 hoops. 1400 transfers is 30% of all available roster spots, and each team is losing on average 3.4 players to the transfer portal. Add in players exhausting their eli...

Re: KAEO Josh Cohen
it is a drag, and I agree with both IV and Jackson, but the question is how does it get fixed? The courts struck down the sit-out rule, and over the last few years it seems like the NCAA continues to lose more and more power. I'm not lobbying for giving the NCAA more power, they've had their chance...

Re: KAEO Matt Cross
I don't think it was a horrible take, and I hope I don't sound like I'm piling on. I thought it was an interesting question, and I'm not going to burn you for having concern for the well being of players. Responding to this point real quick: And it is clear that the value of the degree is no longer ...

Re: KAEO Matt Cross
While I share some of the concerns about how these kids are handling the stacks of cash they're given at a young age, I'm not going to worry too much about it. They're being given a free education and degree from an outstanding university in addition to the NIL $. If they choose to value a one-time ...

Re: 2024 Recruiting
…When it comes to recruiting, I trust Frank and his staff. Doesn’t that go against the purpose of this entire site….lol… No... I merely said that I trust Frank and his staff (as opposed to the recruiting ability of a certain past coaching regime). I didn't tell anyone not to post their opinions or ...

Re: 2024 Recruiting
Tough to get a read on guys like that. He could be the next Gianni Thompson (MA prospect that transferred from BC to UMass and didn't play at either), or he could be the next Matt Cross or Rahsool Diggins (limited at their P5 stops and blossomed at UMass). When it comes to recruiting, I trust Frank ...

Re: Pat Kelsey
All sorts of rumors as to why it happened. I think it's the most obvious one: his wife got off the plane for the press conference, said it's too damn cold, and told him to choose between her or UMass. He had to make a choice on the day of the press conference, and that's why it went down the way it ...

Re: Pat Kelsey
Douche by the way he did it, leaving at literally the last second. The press, fans, and the band were assembled waiting for the press conference and he slipped out the back door.

Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024
Awesome news. Jayden is a worker and has such potential. Instant fan favorite with his style of play and a local guy too. Things are starting to round into form, fingers crossed for Matt and Rahsool.

Re: KAEO: Jaylen Curry
^ That's totally fair and you're right, we need more size with Cohen gone. I have 100% faith that Frank will get one or two quality bigs in this program next year, whether that's Mason, Damjanac (sp?), and a transfer or some other combination.

Re: KAEO: Jaylen Curry
Because we've all seen this movie before. Talented player comes to UMass and then gets poached by a bigger school. It happened with Tre, RJ, and Cohen, and I think Jaylen could garner that kind of high major interest. I also have no clue how much is in the NIL pool, so I'm under the assumption that ...

Re: KAEO: Jaylen Curry
What?!?! Outstanding! I thought for sure he was a goner. He didn't have the outstanding freshman campaign that RJ Luis did (at least in my view), but he made the A10 all freshman team and I thought he would get poached. Great job by The Collective and all the donors (including me, patting myself on ...

Re: Conference realignment
I would assume we can make that work, especially with Thorr Bjorn being the AD over there. The two rival teams that come to mind for me when I think about UMass basketball are Temple and URI. We might have a game against Temple next year at the Mohegan event depending on results, but I've missed th...
