Back on track... Gary Williams has really put MD in a tough spot. The coaching carousel was at a dead stop, now MD has to start it back up again. Who are they going to get at this point? Will they try to pry Shaka Smart away from VCU when others weren't successful? They are aiming higher. And based...

^ This one has been in the works for a week or so. When discussing the Nero hiring at GW on the A10 forum, it looked like Hobbs would get another year under Nero and then likely hire Lonergan after next season. But with Larranga leaving GMU, it sped things up as GW knows if they want Lonnergan, then...

I wonder if Larranaga at his age will have the energy to build up a program from the cellar. He has obviously been a great coach, but this kind of job takes a lot of energy. Speaking as a guy who recently turned 63. It's not just a fair point, but an important one. One of the strangest hirings you'...

Prior to Temple's agreement with the MAC, they regularly had one of the top SOS in the country. Since the deal, their SOS has dropped quite a bit, making it harder for them to build an at large resume. Add in the yearly big 5 games against Nova and Drexel and Temple has very little flexibility anym...

Um, yes, it does. What are the conference above the A10in RPI, bids, etc? It's the 6 BCS conferences.

Re: MAC opponents because of football move

[I've gone on the record of actually being in favor of the scheduling condition if for one thing, it took off two dogcrap games each year like Rider, Jacksonville, Arkansas-Fort smith, Grambling St., St. Francis, Jacksonville St., IUPUI, etc. Swapping two of those with EMU, Ball St., Kent St., Akro...

Re: MAC opponents because of football move

Is this a good or bad thing for UMass hoop, having a mandate that we play 4 MAC opponents per year? My take: I'd like to see us drop the likes of Central CT, Maine, Sacred Heart off the schedule. MAC basketball opponents aren't cupcakes, but they're not high majors either. If we're going to play 4 ...

NY Daily News jumped the gun.

Looks like Jim Ferry has passed on Manhattan and will remain at LIU. GREAT for LIU. Ferry needs another strong year and he'll be in the mix for A10 type jobs.

First confirmed candidate for the Princeton job (from outside the Princeton family) is Mike Brennen, Georgetown assistant. He's been close to getting jobs the past couple years, so this could be a good fit for him.

You stated that it was absolutely a stretch and you referred to it as a lateral move. As those are incorrect assessments, and ones directed towards me, of course I was going to present the supporting data. If you weren't expecting that, you wouldn't have phrased your retort the way you did. Phrase ...

Jim Ferry is leaving LIU for Manhattan. Good hire. They passed on the "hot" assistant this time around for an established coach.

Thompson from Princeton to Georgetown, as mentioned, is another. I do, agree Quinn that Ivy to BCS is a rare occurance. Your posts and Marty Peretz insight make this a very interesting topic! Where as coaches as Umass are successful when they find talent that is overlooked elsewhere, athletic direc...

Brilliant hire for Fairfield, an absolute coup. And now, maybe we have a better context for his post KY press conference sob fest about how much he "loves Princeton basketball." Getting your pay roughly tripled to go to a school which TYPICALLY competes at a similar level of play might not always b...

wow, quinn sorry to get your panties in a bunch. I get that you run a website but relax bro. Fantasy world about salary? Haley's comet happens all the time? Didn't say anything one way or the other about salary and didn't say Ivy happens all the time. Just an opinion. And as part of your "exercise"...

And EMU got rid of Ramsey as coach. Odd timing. If they made this move 2 weeks ago, they likely could have gotten Montgomery. I expect a number of Big Ten assistants will be added to the list this week for EMU. Might even see a few A10 assistants like Cornell Mann (Dayton assistant under Gregory, ye...
