This year and previous years, sure, UMass would be fine. But with UMass Lowell upgrading to D1, perhaps Massachusetts is a better fit...more direct, unique.

Is there a thread or an article somewhere that talks about how the schools that formed the A10 were put together and why a Big East happened (versus other good schools from the Northeast didn't try to get into the A10). I won't get into why they should have gone for an all sports conference from th...

Exit fees? I guess that could matter for UMass's decision if they would use them to subsidize UMass's exit fees as they did for Temple's. Otherwise, I don't how those other things either happen or matter a whole lot to UMass's decision, nor do I see them causing the conference to totally blow up. C...

My head is spinning on all this. One question - IFF this conference is supposed to be Catholic, why is Butler mentioned? It's not. It just happens that the 7 schools leaving the Big East football schools ARE Catholic. They want to be with like-minded schools. That means schools without FBS football...

I understand all the optimism by A10 fans with ideas of poaching schools from power conferences, expansion, dropping dead weight, etc. But it's just not a reality in the business fo college sports for the A10. The A10 expanded to 16 this year, 14 for next, in preparation for the day that the Big Eas...

I wonder if the a10 will ever become a conference with the balls to kick out teams like Fordham and George Washington? Imagine how much better our predicted RPI would be without those two teams. :| Maybe even Rhode Island and then we would pickup 40 games against generally good RPI opponents. Why k...

^ If the 7 catholic schools aren't joining the A10, why would you think the FBS football schools would...and that the A10 would just sponsor football? Why would the 10 nBE football schools just say, "I know...instead of splitting our TV money 10 ways for basketball, let's split it 18-22 ways."? This...

The A10 should approach UConn, Cinn, Memphis, Temple, USF and UCF about joining the A10 for all sports except football. Those schools would then be able to form a football only league with Navy, ECU, Tulane and whomever else they could get to join them in a football only conference. When UConn and ...

There hasn't even been the smallest rumor that the "Big East" is considering us at all. Writers seem to be the only people who think the "Big East" should bring us on board. The reason is because the current path the Big East is on is to take the 10 all-sports members, take the 4 FB only members (E...

We upgraded to FBS football. And that means having to make the decisions to protect that investment. The future is not in being in 2 conferences, but in being in 1 conference for a number of reasons...TV contracts that combine football and basketball being the top reason. And for that reason, you wi...

OK, what the most likely situation, would be, should there be a Big East split, is that the 7 basketball schools simply leave and the football side remain a conference. The only variable sare Boise St. and SDSU as FB only members. But even if they left, the Big East still would have 10 all-sports an...

Not a TV of media sighting, but one I thought I'd share anyways.

I live in Santiago, Chile, been here since Dec after a year in Buenos Aires. Was on the Metro yesterday and was standing next to a guy with a UMass hoody. Some nice nostalgia.

^ Tier 1 for the CAA maybe, neck and neck Charleston. Great academics at Davidson and a great coach. But as a program, they are more on par with the middle of the pack A10 schools, not the elite. They play in the SoCon, so it's been easier to win (over programs like Charleston). But they have less t...

It should speak volumes that Tom Pecora left Hofstra to go to perennial A-10 bottom-feeder Fordham. Yeah, it was an upgrade in conference stature, but Fordham hasn't exactly shown a commitment to excellence either.
Exactly. Hell, Stony Brook seems more committed of late.
