Re: Conference realignment 3.0

I think even healthy fans would help.

Re: Athletic Director: McCutcheon out, who's in

A quick note on Allen Greene: both Blaudshaum and Matty v.'s articles have him listed as an Associate AD. Buffalo has a number of Associate AD's, some senior AD's, and a Deputy Athletic Director under the Athletic Director. A closer read of his bio on the Buffalo site shows that Mr. Greene is actual...

Re: Athletic Director: McCutcheon out, who's in

Wow is right. I am absolutely horrified that UM would bring Fiore in for an interview, given those two articles. Sounds like a grade-A hole. Obivously, there are mixed stories on Bamford. Greene might have potential beyond what his resume says, but he seems a few years away from being a D-I AD. Make...

Re: Men's Swimming and Diving

No one from UMass was selected for NCAA's. Each year, they publish A and B qualifying standards for every swimming event. If you make an A cut you go automatically. There are usually only a handful of swimmers who make these - maybe 8 an event. If you get a B cut you are considered. After the last c...

Re: Game 3 Harvard

I didn't realize Massachusetts HS lax had gotten that good. HS lax wasn't very good in MA when I was young, and there seem to be relatively few kids from MA on the UMass "toaster" in recent years, but if the MA kids are just going elsewhere, I wouldnt have known it. The huge growth of the sport is a...

Re: Game 3 Harvard

The NCAA limit for men's lax is pretty low. I think it's 12.6 for a roster of 45. I can't imagine we are below that. I think there are a number of issues that are hurting the program now that are beyond scholarships. There are many more lax programs now, so the talent gets split up more. We have a c...

Re: Men's Swimming and Diving

Back to swimming and diving for a bit... The A10 meet has really gotten very fast over the past few years. For a few years, UMass was the clear cut top of the league, but other schools have stepped up their games. All of the teams have good swimmers now, it's just a matter of who has the best and wh...

One dimensional was a huge step up from 2 years ago, when we were zero dimensional.

Re: State of the Hockey Program

I think the lack of support comes from a focus on getting football up and running. Right now that has to be the priority for the athletic department, but it couldn't have helped the hiring process. Cutting hockey would send a message that football isnt working, and that's the last thing the Universi...

Re: UMass Football going Independent

Nice job. You hit all the main points. It's the right place for UMass to be as an institution. It will take time. We are heading in the right direction.

Re: I really think the time has come to can McCutcheon

Does anyone know how the California retirement system works? Mr. McCuthceon has 12 years with Cal Poly. He has historically stayed at jobs for 10 to 12 years. Another 8 years at a state school in CA gives him 20 total. That might set him up nicely.

Re: UMass Football going Independent

A friend of mine once observed that you can't argue illogic with logic. Max Page isn't interested in a discussion, so there isn't any reason to try to engage him in a discussion. It's clear that Swamy has figured this out. Did the faculty senate agree to the language on the poll? Maybe the poll help...

Re: Conference realignment 3.0

One of the great things about donating to an endowment is that you can give financial support to a cause without worry that your donation just means the budget can be cut by that amount. I don't know what the limit is now, but a little over a decade ago, there was a surprisingly low bar for setting ...

That was just terrible. The team needs to stew on this during a long bus ride home.

Re: Game 3, 2014-15: Manhattan

I couldn't watch the game today, and I am not sure that was a bad thing. However, 3-0 is a great start. They are really killing it in that stat of having more points than the other team at the end of the game. I am worried about Cady getting worn down or injured if those minutes keep up. Over the lo...
