Re: 2017 Recruiting needs and potential recruits

Not trying to get folks riled up again but this seemed like the best thread to post this in. I'm underwhelmed by McCall's first recruiting class thus far. McCall probably did the best he could in short time and with so many slots to fill but IMO he's really going to need to hit the ball out of the ...

Re: 2017 Recruiting needs and potential recruits

Every year there are kids like this unsigned at this point and are good players, lots of times they head to prep schools and then sign the next year. What you pointed out (and I'm sure you know more than I do on this) is why I didn't think it was necessary to despair about our transfers/potential t...

I don't want to speak for anyone else, but I doubt that comment was about Berger.

Re: KAEO: Keon Clergeot (Memphis Transfer)

He seems like a great addition to the team. He was highly regarded out of high school and, unlike many other transfers we've heard about, after the year sitting out to develop, he should have a full 3 years ahead of him to make his mark at UMass.

Re: 2017 Recruiting needs and potential recruits

^ I don't think Welch will be eligible to play in 2017 for any D1 school. Singh has to sit out a year and Harley was a bit player at Ohio, I hope we could do better. It's almost getting to the point where they just need warm bodies. Not quite, but close. I'm not sure if that's true, but if it does ...

Re: Coach Matt McCall a solid choice

^ Seriously. I'm surprised at the overreaction (of some) to a bunch of players with very underwhelming success transferring out. It bears repeating - this class was the great hope of a team that ended up deteriorating and finishing with an abysmal conference record and getting blown out by bottom dw...

Re: Kellogg McCall Leavers

Yeah, I agree, the problem isn't necessarily with getting basketball alumni involved, the problem is getting them excited...there just hasn't been a lot to get excited about lately for everyone involved (including fans). That's really what needs to change, and hopefully it will change soon.

Re: KAEO Chris Baldwin

^ I agree with that. Team chemistry and a positive culture in the program supersedes individual talent. If last year doesn't prove that, I don't know what does. I think that by the time August rolls around, the roster will be relatively full, just with a lot of different names than we know now, and ...

Re: Kellogg McCall Leavers

Seems to me that UMass provided an opportunity for these guys to get a first rate education at a first class University, train in a brand new first class training facility...the new Champion Center and plays in a conference in the top quarter of D1 hoops conferences. I'm not sure what it is you thi...

Re: Coach Matt McCall a solid choice

I'm pretty optimistic about the years ahead. Regarding the players who are staying, I'm glad that they'll be here, as I think they are going to be a very important part of the rebuilding process. But with respect to some of those players who are transferring (not referring to the graduate transfers,...

Was this on anybody's radar? Seems like the commitment came out of nowhere. Needless to say, sounds like a nice pickup!

^ Hard to find much on him. This article is from April and it seems like he would be a redshirt candidate. We need players who can contribute this year. Here's hoping that the coaching staff see's something in him that warrants playing time this year. http://www.cityofbasketballlove.com/news_articl...

Below them are schools that were interested but did not offer.
It's pretty nice to land a walk-on who was good enough to get offers from those places.

My thoughts exactly. They may have to either transfer to a lower level conference program in order to stick together, or each go their own way. We'll see.

Re: 2017 Recruiting needs and potential recruits

"Just looking at the numbers, Rideau appears to be the stronger player. Besides his scoring, he averaged 3 steals a game. Of course, you have to factor in the level of competition which is much in Clergeot's favor." Tough comparison to make. For one, as you mentioned, there's a significan...
