Re: Future of UMass System

This sounds like an excellent and forward thinking move. I'll be interested in seeing how this evolves.

Re: 2018 Season

Personally, I'd rather it be done right than done hastily. As long as it puts the program in the best position possible, I'm okay with Bamford and Whipple taking as much time as they need.

Re: 2018 Season

Well, my point wasn't to imply that Bamford is intentionally backing out of anything, I was more pointing out the complexity of the situation (and, I guess, my own feelings of ambivalence about whether Whipple is the right coach at this point). For example, MJatUM suggested that buyout clause (among...

Re: 2018 Season

I have no idea if this has anything to do with the contract negotiations, but in my opinion the jury is still out on Whipple. On the one hand, we passed some nice milestones, but we also blew a lot of opportunities, including an 0-6 start and a bad loss to Coastal Carolina, which falls on the coach....

Re: State of the Progam

Fair enough. I just thought it was premature to make the statement that UMass or any other FBS program are "in his rearview mirror" with a still relatively humble resume. But in 5 years, who knows. If he moves up as quickly as you think he will, then I will be happy for him either way.

Re: State of the Progam

Pretty sure this puts us in Liam's rear view mirror. Yes, because a coach with NFL experience would never coach at UMass. No. Point being he has risen from QB coach at Umass to OC at Maine, HC (never played a game) to NFL coach, he’s on a trajectory that should have him passed a fledging independen...

Yeah, or excitement. My first thought, "wow, did Whipple finally agree to hire an offensive coordinator?!"

Re: Game 20, 2017-18: Saint Louis (1/20)

The "bare cupboard" conspiracy is a flimsy excuse to cover for a poor coaching job - PERIOD. Ford gets my polite, appreciative applause, then I root to kick his everlovin' ass for the rest of the night..... Agreed. I was pissed for a few days when Ford left the way he did, but once things settled d...

Re: New UMass coach Matt McCall

^ Exactly. We just notched another nice win, not sure why anyone would spend emotional energy right now to roast the fan base. Rome wasn't built in a day, and when it comes down to it, we are still a .500ish team with students still returning from break. The program is turning a corner and it's only...

He will not be playing pg next year...both Clergot and Wood are ready to play.
Thanks, that answers the question I was asking. So Clergeot is more a pure point guard?

Re: KAEO LuWane Pipkins (PG-2015)

That doesn't really address the discussion though. I believe McCall has said he will have the option of using a small line up, but still, somebody has to play the point. If, as UMass87 says, Pipkins is "unacceptable" as a point guard (I disagree), then it will have to be Clergeot or maybe somebody e...

Re: KAEO LuWane Pipkins (PG-2015)

Yes, he may well be able to LEARN to be a pg but he simply is not an acceptable D1 point guard today. He turns the ball over far too often. Unfortunately, Pip, CJ, and Rayshawn Miller are the only players who can play pg and none of them are high A10-level point guards right now. If UMass wants to ...

Re: KAEO LuWane Pipkins (PG-2015)

Next year when Pip isn’t playing the point, he could really light it up. Are we really expecting him to move to the wing for the majority of his minutes after this year? We already have a whole bunch of wing players that we'll be adding to the rotation to go along with Pierre, so my guess is that i...

Re: McGuirk Upgrade

Whipple was forced to go the cheap route with the coaching staff and was forced to also be the offensive coordinator to save money. I agree with a lot of your posted (Gillette can definitely be an asset that can be better utilized), but you've repeated the bolded portion several times now, and I'm ...

Re: Holy Cross Crusaders

Even though I'm not personally offended by their mascot, I can totally understand why those at Holy Cross might want to change it. After all, it is a symbol of a not-so-positive aspect of human history, and it is the right of those in the Holy Cross community to voice how they want their institution...
