Re: Charlotte

Don't understand the comments that we were lucky to be up 28-0. They made the plays, gotta give them credit. They came out ready and hit their big plays. If you're gonna rip 'em, you gotta give them credit when they play well. Not saying it's been a perfect start to the season but to bounce back af...

Re: State of the Progam

$175M WTF??? We could build two stadiums for that price, even at the market-rate in New England.

Re: Charlotte

I'm in no place to be complaining and I know a lot of Charlotte's performance was in garbage time. But still I have to think, if we didn't get those 28-0 in the first six minutes you're looking at a very different game. We got VERY lucky those first few drives.

Re: Charlotte

For me....inward. And then hopefully they fire Whip and bring in the guy from Maine. BTW Maine beat WKU last week and are nationally ranked in the FCS. Any FCS over FBS win is impressive, as is bringing Maine to their first Top 25 ranking since 2014. Especially since WKU is a pretty good team. They...

Re: State of the Progam

The only profitable FBS Indy is Notre Dame and we are no ND. Without a conference and stable scheduling we are not going to sustain this program. As for the facilities, continue playing in a dump hole with no fixed bathrooms and a terrible product on the field (minus the marching band) and you will...

Re: Charlotte

I think the best position we could be in as an indy would be to use Eleven Sports (and NESN) for production and cable distribution, Stadium for over-the-air distribution, and ESPN+ (and Stadium) for digital distribution. But I don't know if that's even possible.

ESPN gives Whipple a 4% chance of being fired during or following this season.

Re: State of the Progam

^ Mike Locapo has always been a fan of UMass in the MAC so nothing new there. I was entertaining the idea last night after looking into the finances a bit. I did not realize how piss poor the A10 TV deal is. For a league that has pretty regularly put in three NCAA bids and has the most NIT bids of a...

Re: State of the Progam

It's up and in on Bamford, a swing and a miss; strike one. There is no sustainability for UMass without a conference. I pretty much agree with this. And, unless they schedule annual games with BC, UConn, maybe Temple, there will be no rivalries to spark fan interest. Definitely need BC, UCONN, and ...

Re: McGuirk Upgrade

Replying to @mattengdahl @mlocapo @_RyanAmes Find $80-100m & we will gladly build a new stadium. And don’t blame the state or the school that they won’t do it - they have supported ~ $80m in athletics projects the last 6 yrs. A new stadium isn’t what we need to build a winning program. It would hel...

Re: Total Wins

For what it's worth ESPN's (I think fivethirtyeight) FPI still has us with 5.7 to 6.3 wins. ESPN now at 4.3 to 7.7 wins. I think the team has been performing so poorly compared to expectations there's so much volatility in that prediction. Reaaaaaly broad confidence interval there. How is it possib...

Re: Fire the OC

https://dailycollegian.com/2018/09/ryan-bamford-discusses-state-of-umass-athletics/ I would say this, when you look at a football schedule and as an independent, I tried to build this schedule in a way where we could go out and really figure out if we could acquit ourselves and get ourselves prepare...

Re: Fire the OC

^ I would say that rarely happens because why would a kid take an FCS offer over an FBS offer under any circumstances. No, an FCS head coach would need some recruiting experience as an assistant an FBS school. Jim Tressel made the transition from Youngstown St. to Ohio State but he was tied in to t...
